Subject: Question about python scripts

shadownet ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 12:20 PM · edited Mon, 05 August 2024 at 2:12 AM

Okay, I am a real dummy when it comes to this sort of stuff but I have this strange notion banging around in my head and no way of checking it out since I know next to nothing about python script, other than what I have seen other folks do. I am wondering if one can use a python script to make an object behave like it is a light (source) in Poser? Is that possible? Or just wishful thinking? Seems to me a script could be written that would trick an object (say a lightbulb for example) into illuminating the objects in the scene around it much like a real light(bulb)source would do. Yes, no, maybe? Maybe I am just stumbling around in the dark on this one.

I haven't seen anything in the PoserPython docs that would give an indication that this was possible. It would be possible though to create a group of lights (say spots) and arrange them in a sphere by way of PoserPython. Is this a direction that works for you?

Heya bushi, that sounds like something that could be useful. Of course, as you know, Poser lighting is a bit odd in the way it works. I have used a circle of lights around an object, such as a lightbulb in a scene, before and it sort of does the trick - but admittedly does not always get the exact results I would like. I generally end up having to fake the effect using transparancy gels. Poser 5 should offer much more realistic lighting effects. Rob

Yes, I agree. Poser lighting can be odd. Just something like the omni-directional light in Bryce would be a god-send. As to P5, we can only hope. :)

Thanks for your reply. Looks like I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for P5 to come through.
