Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
Well, I guess we know the price now.. the press release says that the SRP for Poser 5 will be $549.00. The current P4/Pro Pack bundle (limited time) pricing is $379.00. I don't remember what the older (higher) price was, but let's assume that it will go up $20 when the 'limited time pricing' goes away. That would put P4+Pro Pack at $400.00. So the upgrade to P5 will likely be $149.00, or roughly $349.00 if you're upgrading from P4 without Pro Pack. Obviously, we'll need to wait and see what the actual upgrade prices are, but you can pretty much bet they'll be a direct reflection of the difference in price(s) at the time P5 gets released (it wouldn't make sense for them to make it cheaper for a new customer to buy P4+ProPack+P5 upgrade than it would be to just buy P5 to start with.. no one does that). Time to smell the flowers folks - it's not all roses ;).

The $549.00 was in a press release (see today's threads near the top of this forum). The $379.00 (limited time P4+Pro Pack price) is from CL's web page. The rest of the prices are pure speculation on my part.

OK, let's get some perspective here: 1.) I bought Poser v 1.0 for about $135 in 1996 2.) Poser upgrades have been selling for $99 Those prices are fairly affordable for some hobbyists. Once you get upwards to $200+, you're getting into an area that many people just can't afford or justify. After all why would a hobbyist spend so much money just to have fun? The higher prices put the product into the realm of those who make money from their talents. If Curious Labs goes to the higher end of upgrade pricing, they're actually elminating the very people they professed loyalty to.
I know I won't be able to afford it. I'll have to save for a year to pay for it. My credit cards are almost all getting close to maxing out. I have household expenses besides my hobbies and those take priority over my extracurricular activities. Home repairs are a lot more important to me. When I first bought Poser 2, it was about $185 and I thought that was really expensive. At the time, it was the most expensive software I had actually bought, that didn't come preinstalled on my computer (like word processors, spreadsheets, etc.) If what I'm hearing turns out to be true, it'll be a long while before I can lay down the cash for it. I can't dip into my savings, because I use that to pay my property taxes with. I need my house before I need Poser 5. Curious Labs would be smart to lower prices and sell to a lot more people, than just to the few who have the cash to buy it. Oh, well, I can't complain. I do have Poser 4 and it's better than nothing. Melanie

Not specifically, but if you read back the posts by Kupa you will find a point where he says that propack users will get a better upgrade path compared to Poser 4 users. This can only mean that there will be one Poser 5. And I'll welcome that! Because the possibility of two P5, one standard and one professional, would be much worse. It would mean a low end price for Basic Poser, but at the same time, a version with limited features, while most of the meaty new stuff would end up in a stratospherically priced Professional Poser, which would surely be out of my price range.
