I'm convinced that Bryce can't create a lens flare by itself, so I figured why not make one. Here's a plain jane lens flare, and matching transmap. And here's that ever so popular NASA picture of the Earth at Night mapped to a sphere to demonstrate it.

Here's the transparency map. Apply these bad boys to a 2D plane, and you are good to go.

I use axion Lens Flare plugin in Photoshop. The old lense flare plugin is free now from Axion and although it has a bug, there's a work around. Here's an example of axion filter in PS post render enhancement.

Oh, and the NASA can have a lot of uses too with multiple spheres, one for clouds, another for land mass, and another for the atmosphere.

Knoll Light Factory is a good one...

Yeah, but those lens flares require post work! Actually, all mine is a photoshop lens flare too. All I did was make the transmap. The only reason I made it was so people can dodge post work. Or for people that don't have an image editor.

Post work is not a bad thing for a final product. Yeah, its great to be a purist, and there are times where I bristle with pride on that, but the bottom line is the final image needs to appeal to your customer base so that means post work.
