Subject: 3DS import probs

Being a fairly untechnical person, I was happy to find when I import 3DS files into poser, they keep separate groups within the model(easier for a numpty like me to texture! ) but then calamity struck! Whenever I save an imported model, be it in the libraries or within a PZ3 file, poser seems to change all the groups to one single material. Bang goes all my texture! Is this something the patch would fix? Can anyone help? I think I might be able to fix things with the group tool, but I'm not sure how... thanks Dal

Poser cannot recognize spaces in the names of the materials. Check to see how the materials are written and if there is a space. I suppose editing the file might work but just to be on the safe side I export it as an object, take it into uvmapper and reassign all the materials naming them again. This has worked for me but it might be a hassle for others. I would also like to know if there is any other way.

It is much easier to open the .pp2 prop file, and remove the spaces from the usemtl statements, then save the file. Or open the .3ds file in MAX, and actually give separate names to each assigned material from the get go. Hope this helps, co(V)(V)union
