i downloaded a character file from free stuff put it on a cd (this was done on a pc) and put on on my mac. But when i tried to open it it said the file can not be opened because the program that created it could not be found. I thought well i'll just use mac converter. but when i put the files in it the convert option wasn't highlighted. Please help me because im dumb...

Try downloading it from Freestuff directly to the Mac. You can't double-click a cr2 (character) file on a Mac to open it, so it would say the program couldn't be found. You must have corrupted it beyond repair by burning it to an ISO disk, or maybe your directory is damaged and you need to run DiskWarrior.

If this is'nt a stupid question :o) Have you unzipped it first? If double clicking the zip file causes this error message try running stuffit and unzipping it by clicking File>expand. Otherwise I'd say the file is corrupted, what was it, I could download it and see if it works for me. :o) Baz

got a c compiler on your mac? I have an open source app for converting text from dos to unix easily ported to mac. only have to alter one small part of one line. maybe change includes to fit library names. though stdio.h is usually fine for all os. and yes, a cr2 is a text file.

I used to use the T1 line at work to download with a PC, burn to a CD, then unzip on my Mac with no problem. Still occasionally go to the old CDs for files. Instead of double-clicking the zip file, try dragging the its icon to the icon of the unstuffing application.
