I have a new Dial-A-Tile update just about ready for uploading. It will now include Dial-A-Tile ASM (the ASM is for ASymmetrical Mapping). The image above was made by animating the first 30 tile settings to give you a better idea of how it Tiles. (Dial-A-Tile can be animated if you didn't already know that)

Dial-A-Tile ASM works pretty much like the normal Dial-A-Tile, except that it can tile asymmetrically, Or, to put it another way, it can tile more frequently in one direction over the other. The regular Dial-A-Tile has 40 Tile settings, while the new Dial-A-Tile ASM has 100.

The way this works is that by turning the "Tile Dial" you add tiles in columns up to 10 times (along the X axis). At this point the number of columns is reset to one and another row (along Y Axis) is added. Turning the dial further adds more columns in each row up to 10 when another row is added up to the maximum of ten rows with ten columns. So, there are a hundred combinations to play with including symmetrical maps up to 10 x 10.

Dial-A-Tile ASM allows more flexibility when the figure is stretched out, and, best of all, it can also eliminate texture-stretching distortion. You can, for example, stretch it up to 1000% and then compensate by adding 10 tiles in that same direction, so that the tiles actually appear square. Another example, you could create a fence by placing the Dial-A-Tile ASM upright on the ground and then stretch it out. You would then place a texture on it (wood, chain-link, whatever) then adjust the "Tile Dial" until it looks the way you like it. If you add an appropriate bump map and transparency map and it will look Great.

Dial-A-Tile ASM does not replace the regular Dial-A-Tile. The regular Dial-A-Tile will still be your first choice. It's a little faster, it uses fewer resources, and it will tile denser. (All the way to 40 tiles across.) Most of the time symmetrical tiling looks best, but now you have a CHOICE.

Dial-A-Tile ASM will be available FREE to everyone who already purchased Dial-A-Tile and it will be part of the package for new customers.

Feel free to IM me with any questions.
