Hi All,

Although I've been lurking around Renderosity for quite some time, this is my first post. As a continuing student and freelance Web Designer, I've had a growing interest in 3D computer art. My experience has been limited to playing with Bryce and Poser, but I've decided to get more serious about it. It was a tough decision on where to begin! Since Bryce seems to come a little more naturally to me, I'm scheduled to start a 10 week introductory class next week. If anyone has some tips or suggestions for a beginner, I would really appreciate it!

Welcome aboard. read the threads often and you'll learn a lot. If you want something specific, do a search. Most everything has been asked before, but that shouldn't stop anyone from asking again.

Take some time to press buttons and see what they do! Read tutorials! And like EricofSD sais, spend some time here as well! :) Welcome!

I agree with the previous statements! You will also find that Bryce offers more than just the creation of 3D images. Be creative and you will discover many techniques and effects which could enhance your Web design skills. I teach an introduction to graphic design class at a middle school. When school begins for me this week, I will be instructing 6 sections of middle school students in using Bryce, Photoshop and Illustrator. I emphasize for my students to experiment, observe, and use their imaginations when designing. These principles always help them to sharpen their skills. PS.-You will find this forum of great value! You must sit under a Bodhi tree and meditate every day. Oh wait, that's how you achieve spiritual enlightenment. You must sit in front of your computer and create things every day. Personally, I've found that techniques are good and useful, but I have also needed to find out more about composition and design to make things I'm happy with. Lin

Thanks to everyone for the helpful comments and suggestions! I've started my online class and with a few exceptions (see below), it's going well. I'm finding that it helps to have some initial creative direction instead of sitting in front of a blank canvas and trying to come up with an idea. Anyway, I've run into a couple of issues that I'm hoping someone won't mind taking a moment to help me on:

1. I'm using Bryce 5 & when I have an object selected, I don't have an arrow icon on the column of controls to land it on the ground.

2. I'm sure this probably has to do with the camera views, but I had difficulty with placement of objects. Such as...when I wanted a tree or rock in front of the mountain, it kept going behind instead and wasn't visible.
