I was just browsing the marketplace and ran across Neftis'new P5 hair for Victoria/Stephany and all I can say is WOW...I think that is the best hair from any pre-release pics I have seen. I will be very impressed if anyone is able to do that kind of hair in P5(and it might be possible since he didn't mention any special tools or anything). I just wish mine would have got shipped Friday. =(

Amazing, isn't it? I hope this first example quells any doubt that Poser 5 is flinging the doors wide open for a whole new world of content creation. And seeing how far people pushed Poser 4, I for one can't wait to see what all of you talented artist come up with. For me, this is what makes all the effort worthwhile: Seeing the product my teammates and I worked on being taken and run with by all of you. Happy posing! :-D Anthony Hernandez Curious Labs

yes it looks good!! Can such hair be done only using poser5, or do one need other programs? ( yes, i have ordered my P5upgrade , and hope it will arrive soon here in europe:-)) is the dynamic useful for any other than animations?

what Im afraid of now is..Poser4 becomes obsolete. :( I just cant afford poser 5 right now and Im not shure when I will be able to get it,if at all. So what happans now? All this cool stuff will be poser 5 only? What about Us poor shlubs who cant get poser 5?

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 3:42 AM

Fear not, spudgrl. There's still a huge market for Poser 4 stuff, and not everyone will be switching over to P5 immediately (such as the poor, neglected Macintosh folk). And a lot of P5 stuff should still work in P4, with little or no modification, unless it specifically makes use of the new features. So yes, Poser 4 is obsolete. But it'll be around for quite a while, like VHS.

i agree with little dragon.and maybe there will be some reduced prices for the p4 things.

thgeisel "i agree with little dragon.and maybe there will be some reduced prices for the p4 things." I hope not, as much as I like paying less, it would mean venders would work on stuff that pays more (P5), wouldn't you? Why get less money for the same amount of work. I think it will be a while before P4 bites the dust.

spudgrl...I have P5 pre ordered but as a merchant here & brokered artist at DAZ I for one won't be producing for P5 only...sure, there will be some but overall I will make any of my products available to P4 owners for as long as there is a demand...I don't doubt other merchants will have the same intentions...it makes more sense to make a product widely available anyway...more customers means more sales & therefore funds the next project. Spudgrl, take a look at www.davidoho.com His work and style may or may not appeal to you but may well be the coolness of cool. When imagery like this is possible you need not fear that P4 is obsolete. Artists think "art", not "tools". - Jack

I have to agree with what Jack said above. And, extending that thought a little bit, I think some of us do prefer to use tools we are familiar with. The one reason I hesitate to change over to Poser 5 is that I don't really want to learn a new program at this precise moment in time. Call me lazy, but that is how I feel. (With all the new features it offers, Poser 5 seems more like a new program than a simple upgrade.) It all depends on what features an individual needs in order to create what he or she is interested in creating. I've got nothing against Poser 5, by the way, and think it is a very good bargain for those who need the features it offers. And, when I need to, I will certainly upgrade. Kimberly

the hair looks great. my question is: is it possible to export a poser figure with hair as a OBJ or someting else so you can use it a other 3D progs? Chris

Some of the hair and dynamic cloth will be P5 only, and there will be P5 only textures (unless the P5 people use the same texture map as Posette and Dork, I don't know), but I believe things like props and lighting will work the same, so many things "made for P5" will be perfectly fine in P4. Vic and Mike won't be affected, so there will still be tons of stuff for them still coming out as well.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 2:34 PM

The P5 people use Millennium textures (Michael/Victoria), except for the eyes, and will mostly work with Millennium-figure poses.

"they will mostly work with Millennium-figure poses." except they can move their tootsies independently. ;)
