Subject: When? poser5 shipments question for CL people

c1rcle ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 4:57 AM · edited Mon, 06 January 2025 at 12:36 PM

We all know the US shipments started on Friday, but when do the Europe shipments start? Rob

BrianR ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 5:53 AM

On or before 15/9 apparrently, I checked the press release yesterday after getting all exited that it was already shipping & then saw that it wasn't in Europe :O(

thgeisel ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 5:55 AM

think they use a cheap and very slow boat to take the copies to europe.

c1rcle ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 6:15 AM

you mean they haven't finished the tunnel yet?

thgeisel ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 6:32 AM

no tunnel, only slow sailboats to europe, and the wind is coming the wrong way!No chance to reach europe. If the earth would be a sphere ,they could go the other way round.......

isaacnewton ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 6:35 AM

As usual, we who live in Europe get the raw end of the deal! It seems strange too, since CL is owned by EGISYS which is based in Germany. I mean, afterall, how much extra would it cost to hire a transport company to put a few thousand copies of Poser 5 on a plane headed for Europe? What would it add to the price when shipped in bulk?.... peanuts! I can't imagine many folks objecting to a small surcharge for the opportunity of getting P5 almost as fast as our American friends! How about it Steve? It's not too late!

someone from CL answer me in an previous thread, shipment will start around 25... Very strange cause CL production is in irland... Lc

isaacnewton ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 6:41 AM

WHAT? 25 th September????? I hope that you're joking.

Unfortunatly not!!! http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=852427&Form.sess_id=13056404&Form.sess_key=1031486464

isaacnewton ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 7:14 AM

Yeah, I found the thread. However, that date seems to be based on a US release date of the 15th, then add 2 weeks or so for the snail-mail delivery to us poor Europeans. Well, shipping in the US was earlier by about 10 days, so maybe European shipping will be around the 15th. What annoys me is that CL gave absolutely no indication that shipping to Europe would be two weeks after US shipping. Can you imagine the furore there would have been if they had admitted that?!! Why can't they just offer a FedEx service for those of us who don't want to wait for the slow boat to arrive? Anyone from CL???? Is that a possibility???

ablc ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 7:56 AM

offering fedex ! What will the shareolders will say !!!! Tsss, you're Baaad Boy, and who said they care about european customer ? Just kidding... a bit

toashzadel ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 8:07 AM

The official CL email I got announcing the lauch said: "Poser 5 is now shipping from the Curious Labs web store. International orders will ship in 7 to 10 days." do we have any reason to doubt this? cheers Steve :o)

isaacnewton ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 8:23 AM

OK but what precisely does that mean? Does it mean, they will get around to shipping International Orders in 7 to 10 days time, and then we can add.... how much for actual delivery? Or does it mean that International Orders will be hitting our doorsteps in 7 to 10 days time from last friday? Don't get me wrong; I don't doubt what they say. However, what they actually mean is not always clear. More to the point; why 7 to 10 days longer for International Orders? Normally when I make an order from the States, it arrives here in the Netherlands (not Never-never Land, BTW) within 2 or 3 days. Why can't CL offer the same service. Sure it will cost more, but it will be me paying the extra, not CL!!!

CyberStretch ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 9:42 AM

Likewise, it seems feasible that they could always send a couple of images of the CDs to EGISYS and have the European versions produced there. I do not know what this would do to production costs. Considering that EGISYS also produces software, they most likely already have a preferred company to produce the CDs, etc. I would surmise that if you produce 5000 in the US with 2000 for Europe, the costs would not be all that substantial to have the 2000 copies produced in Europe and only 3000 in the US. (All figures are hypothetical.)

c1rcle ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 9:42 AM

At least we know when to expect it, I didn't see anything on the CL website about it tho, not that I've been able to get on there for a while. Rob

isaacnewton ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 10:18 AM

But c1rcle! We DON'T know when to expect it! Sometime before the end of September... maybe... with a fair wind and some sunny days!!! We live in a world where I can make an order anywhere (almost) in the world and within THREE days, the package is at my door. Why can't CL use/offer that kind of service? It is not them that pay for it, but us! If there is some other reason for the delay, like insufficient copies, then why have all of the available ones gone to American purchacers... that would not be very fair. I preordered my copy the moment that I became aware that it was possible to do so, the same day the announcement was made. As I'm sure you did too. So why do we have to wait an additional uncertain amount of time, somewhere in three region of 1 to 3 weeks? When physical necessity (The Atlantic Ocean)only would delay the process over American shipments by 1 or 2 days! It may seem like I'm whining, but I'd bet my bottom dollar there would be a lot of American voices whining if the boot were on the other foot. It's not as though I'm asking for specialist treatment for Europeans. Just a bit of Fair Treatment on CL's part!

toashzadel ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 11:05 AM

from the email, the structure/grammar of the sentance is such that if you ordered now, they would post it in 7 to 10 days, delivery from the US to say the UK is normally 3 to 7 days.... I haven't ordered it yet, and I guess that the sooner I do, the sooner I'll get it ;o)

c1rcle ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 12:17 PM

like isaac said I ordered mine the first day I could, I'll be home whatever day it's delivered, all day :)

williamsheil ( ) posted Sun, 08 September 2002 at 1:42 PM

The very latest official word is in the CL press release, which is sticking to the "on or before September 15th" commitment. Of course, the 15th is a Sunday, so if they want to stick to it, they will probably have to ship on Friday 13th :-o So far as I could tell when I brought ProPack from CL, it seemed to have been dispatched from the Ireland offices, so presumably they are dispatching stock their first.
