Subject: P5 registration worse than expected!

rwilliams ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2002 at 7:01 PM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 2:15 PM

I never complained about the registration process of P5 over the past several weeks. I figured "How bad can it be?". Well, it can be worse than you may think. First I tried five times to do the instant registration. Yeh, right. I would hit the button and would get a message saying "connecting to server". I waited and waited. Then I cancelled. Tried two more times. Same thing. Waited even longer. Total time so far, 20 minutes after install. Cancelled again. Tried again. Then again. Now 35 minutes have passed. Went for manual registration. Not sure what happened but Poser locked. I closed it brutally. Ran again. This time tried website registration. Re-entered ALL the data. Hit enter. Ran and looked for my old Poser4 S/N. (Didn't take to long since I spent an hour finding it when I placed the order to give it to them then). Entered the data. Everything was fine. 72 minutes total after install. Not bad. What a bunch of BS for a paying customer. The bad thing is that I would do it over again for Poser5! Sure 'looks' a lot more professional then my last 3D package. That was Animatek World Builder over a year ago and am still waiting for a manual.

I had the same trouble. I sent them my serial numbers for Poser4 and Poser 5 and got a fast reply. I went to the "email tech support". I got my response code from them, copied it and then pasted. Worked great. Bill

You're counting minutes? I'm counting hours. I've been trying to register since this morning and still no luck. I'm not worried about it; I just don't like it.

I had trouble as well. My previous serial was not accepted on the web page. Poor Tori, I had a minor fit at her expense. She got back to me by email in under 5 minutes, though, so if I'm not impressed with the "so easy" registration process, at least I'm impressed with the service. Phoenix

Disable your firewall before registering on the web.

I thought of the firewall thing too. But now I don't remember if I tried it or not during my dozen or so attempts. No matter now, tho. I just got the email from CL with the response code and it worked. Thanks.

This site has been jammed all afternoon (got knocked off a couple of times) so I can imagine their registration site is very overwhelmed. That might have something to do with it.

Registered my upgrade at their website fast (took a couple minutes to find the right page/frame) and with no problems about seven hours ago, even though I had to type in the codes from my off-line PC to my online Mac. Could be that the system is just overloaded with all the early deliveries.

'rwilliams' sed... "Now 35 minutes have passed." "72 minutes total after install." Oh Yeah?! Well, when I was your age, weeda had ta actually PAY for a stamp, and mail in a registration card for somthing like that. We didn't even HAVE an internet back in those days. Yep-un. (wheeze... ) Jes goes to show how rottin spoilt all ya yung-uns' have got, now-a-days. (wheeze...) Just gotta have everything ya want RIGHT NOW! eh?..

Yeah - and guess what guys - when SR1 for it comes out - you can bet you will have more problems. Or when SR1 or SR2 for Windows XP (or SR4 for Windows 2k)... I tell you - this type of security feature should NOT be used by CL - they are not a big enough company to hold it together, and until they know we will not put up with it they will just continue to take advantage of us. Again - complain, because they only way they will know you are not happy is if we do complain and put our feet down. I know - I sound like a broken record, but I want Poser 5 (damn I want it!!) - but I'm not going to get it until they remove the stupid activation code security system... WiNC

I'm not saying I agree with the copy-protection (any copy protection at all, as many of you already know), but I must say this was extremely painless for me. It literally took me less than 2 minutes to register, AND I am behind a NAT firewall. Guess I'll go count my blessings. -Tim

My registration worked perfectly. It took less than 2 minutes. I did take my firewall program down first, then popped it back on right after I got it registered. P5 keeps trying to access the network to look for other copies, but the firewall stops it, and P5 loads anyway. I'm surprised you had problems. Even casamerica was able to get P5 registered. Now getting P5 to load after registration - that took some ingenuity!

"Disable your firewall..." I'm not disabling my firewall for anybody! I'll be going the email option as my P5 machine (to be) isn't connected to the 'net and never will be... later jb
