Subject: Shadows???

Hello everybody. I made some sort of "infinite plane". I put a figure in the middle of the plane and clicked "render". Shadows are showing on the figure, nevertheless, no shadows are shown on the infinite plane. Any ideas? Thanks

If you have something enormous in your scene, the shadow maps get stretched out to cover the entire area. This results in loss of definition; the shadows become fuzzier and less distinct. So your best options are to increase the size of the shadow maps, or reduce the area they cover. Select your "infinite plane", go to Properties (CTRL-I), and disable shadows. Yes, I know it sounds counterintuitive, but that just means that the plane itself won't cast shadows. Shadows can still be cast onto it.

If you are using the "GROUND" prop in Poser, it does not always "catch" shadows as well as other props do. Try using Poser's "square" prop (rotate x = 90 degrees) and expand the scale to the size you want. Turn the "GROUND" OFF ... [menu]"Display" ---> "Guides" ---> "Ground Plane" (make sure it is UNchecked) Might work, might not ... cheers, dr geep ;=]

Also, if your "plane" does not have any thickness, it could affect it's ability to "catch" shadows. Just another thought. ;=]

Little Dragon covered the answer, but I have a mini-tutorial on my artist page with basically the same information (and some images)... see if the link aboe helps.
