I was goofing around a little and decided to see what "Smooth Polygons" in P5 is about. The image above is a Poser 4 Render of three objects. All 3 objects are the same except for having vertices welded. From left to right no welding, Bottom half only welded, and fully welded.

Now this is a Production render of the same three objects in P5 with Smooth Polygons checked. I was curious to see that the first object is still faceted, But look how round the last object is now!

Here is another P5 render but this time I tilted the view. Uh oh Black gaps in the seams.

Here is one more in P5 with Smooth unchecked and from the new view angle.

Uhh here is one more. Smooth Polygons checked in render settings but unchecked in object settings.

I just realized with that last Image that this presents a serious bug. In the first images smoothing was already checked for the objects yet no smoothing occurred because it was turned off in the Render settings. Unchecking smoothing in object settings did not fully turn off the smoothing and weird stuff is happening. Turning off smoothing in both render settings and object settings looks the same as post#4

Thanks for posting your research.

I guess it's a good idea to use smoothing both in properties and the renderer settings.

Well a lot is going to depend on what you're trying to render and how it's put together. A lot of non-organic objects are going to have to be rendered with smoothing turned off. Doing that at the object level seems to be broken.
