Subject: Poser 5 Hair Import Problem

nighthawk ( ) posted Tue, 17 September 2002 at 6:55 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 10:03 AM

Hi. I am having problems importing Dynamic Hair into Carrara Studio 1.1. Only the "Skullcap" gets imported. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help. Also thanks to Hawk999 for the tip on rendering Poser eyes in Carrara. Works great!

Poser 5 dynamic hair does not seem to be a mesh object, so it can't be exported from that program. Some poeple have been able to export something that looks like a lumpy mesh (looks nothing like the hair in Poser 5), while others only seem to get the skull cap. I have not yet tried exporting hair (but will experiment soon), but I suggest trying checking different boxes when exporting as an obj. Lammoth

Thanks Lammoth. What a bummer. I use Poser primarily to make characters to export into Carrara. Wish I had known about this before I bought the upgrade. In any event, I posted the ? on the poser forum and was pointed to this tut. that gives a "work-a-round" of sorts for the problem: http://www.fignations.com/jelisa/tutorials/p5hair3.html

If the Poser 5 hair is a rendered effect, then it would be impossible to export that unless somebody wrote a Carrara plug-in to simulate the algorithm used by Curious Labs. But I think that Eric may be able to adapt "Anthing Grows" to the Poser 5 skullcaps, since using his software wouldn't violate Curious Lab's copyright of their procedure.

That would be wonderful and exactly what I was thinking of too. It would be a viable solution since AnythingGrows and Poser 5 hair are both "fur" objects. What would be really nice is if AnythingGrows could understand the data that goes along with a skull cap and so reproduce the hair as you composed it in Poser 5. And as for that tutorial above, making a good transmap and hair texture for each hairdo would be a pain at best. Might try it once though. Lammoth
