THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Convertor for obp to anything else?

Are there any programs that will convert a Bryce4 obp to anything else.(hopefully free) And why doesn't bryce allow you to export anything but terrains. this seems to me a huge limitation to their software. I'm finding that Bryce seems to be a stand alone in the desert type of software. No other companies really support it and Metacreations seems reluctant to support it also. I recently bought Painter 3d at a computer expo and I can't import Bryce objects into it. Seems strange that metacreations would make two seperate 3d oriented programs that can't interact with each other...it's no wonder their getting rid of their 3d product line.If anyone could help me with either of these situations I'd be most happy!!!!

First, Metacreations didn't create any of these programs. They "assembled" a product line and were primarilly a marketing/distributing company. That's why the programs don't really integrate very well with each other. Over the last couple years they tried to make them more compatible but lost interest. You Can create some really nice things from the terrains that may be exported under other file formats like 3DS, OBJ, DXF etc. You need to select the terrain object (or other model that was imported) and then click on the Edit Materials Tab, when the smoothing window pops-up then hit the "command(or)control and d" on the keyboard and you will be presnted with a pop-up for different file format export options. That being said, the program was never meant to be a modeling program. Its' strength has been focused on bringing objects into Bryce for rendering.

I use open gl and it will change anything to just about anything else (except for poser files). You lose the texture in te process, but thats no big deal. Theres a link to it somewhere around here...
