Subject: MAT file problem

Darkworld ( ) posted Thu, 19 September 2002 at 10:23 PM · edited Sat, 03 August 2024 at 12:46 PM

i have the odd problem----> MAT files i create work successfully... but still ask me EVERY time to locate the file it's looking for, despite the fact that it browses itself to the correct folder and shows me the exact file LOL. its like it just wants me to double click the file since it's unable to do so, even though it quite obviously knows EXACTLY where the file is. any idea what i might change with text editor or something in the pz2 that might skip this annoying question? or anyone know a good app for making MAT files, im using an old version of cr2edit (updates wont run on my comp, im using windows XP). thanks! Brian

Do you have the full pathname to the textures in the MAT pose file or the relative pathname? Seems to work better for me if I use :Runtime:textures:: than if I use the full pathname, like "D:Poser 4Runtimetextures:", especially in Poser 5 with linked Runtimes. Worth a looksee and try anyway.

oops, got a few extra colons in there cause I used carets in the pathname.

pathname is :Runtime:textures, etc... i looked at my MATs and other MATs that work perfectly in a text editor and couldnt really find any difference =/

May I recommend you try CorrectReference? It's a free utility I wrote to batch correct texture references. It's quick(usually!), easy to use and bloomin' useful! Howard:)

cool thanks ill try that

er, looks like a good utility, but i dont if anybody has all their textures in one folder lol, all of my libraries probably reference 20 different folders for textures (just think of all the products/textures/characters people purchase or download) im giving it a shot right now though nonetheless lol

It's OK, Darkworld... you tell CR the folder you wish it to search for textures in, and it recursively searches all the folders in that path. It won't miss one!! H:)

Oh... Darkworld... Could I recommend PBooost 1.3 for making your MAT files? It makes it really quick and easy... (And lots of people don't know about the new features in the Deep File Editor!) H:)

file_24490.jpg

cool ill try your program, the path corrector worked ok, but for some MATs it filled in blanks for the textures lol... ugh. here is a JPG of what happens with my MATs, see it KNOWS EXACTLY where the file is, so WHY THE HECK is it asking me??? really annoying lol

Darkworld ( ) posted Fri, 20 September 2002 at 12:50 PM

ok i did just pick up PBoost 1.3, looks really cool. having trouble getting it to do anything though lol, even after looking at the tutorials. ok, some of my MAT files were like "wiped" by the correction routine ("..." was insterted for materials, which were working fine before except for the annoying question every time that i posted above). So how do i go about using PBoost to correct those MAT files and stick the textures back in there for the materials that need them? thanks!

hogwarden ( ) posted Sat, 21 September 2002 at 5:49 PM

I'm mystified by the blanks appearing in your MATs after using CorrectReference... this hasn't happened to anyone else!.. without seeing what's in the MAT files I can't suggest as to what happened!?! But we've sorted it out now via IM, and Darkworld's fixed it all up with PBooost... am I right? H:)

hogwarden ( ) posted Sat, 21 September 2002 at 5:54 PM

Oh... I've got it. The mat files which ALWAYS made Poser ask for textures were messed up in some way. That meant that CorrectReference couldn't cope with them properly. Luckily PBooost allows you to selectively pick new references for these messed up ones, and hopefully fix the file properly. H:)
