funny I thought the 4.03 update was after the buyout, they do actually answer emails if you give them time, oh & IE6 is a pain until you upgrade it from windows update, get all the patches for it & it'll work properly. I thought win2k was supposed to be better than XP? glad I went for the "inferior" spying XP instead of 2k.
You know I figured it out... The mayor of Santa Cruz doesn't trim his beard. I suspect he's a Taliban. They've taken over. This software protection scheme is actually a way of activating a bomb that is cleverly conceiled in the manual. A manual they know no one will ever open...even if they want a friggin phone number (found on page 352 BTW under the heading:- now how's this for a deception- "Technical Support". My God!!!!! The devils.... This secret code obtained while trying, without success BTW, to register the product will set off the bomb on October 21, 2002 at high noon.... Why that date? We have no idea, but we're checking with our experts who are presently in a nudie bar in Kasabazua.... Stay tuned. As soon as we've checked them for STDs we'll 3rd degree 'em for sure... Meanwhile, back at the ranch, George meat with Colin and little Tony and tried, without success to find Canada on a map of North America....Stay tuned....We suspect foul play...

yeah you can say butt here, it's words like arse or shit the admins don't like much ;) The biggest problem with IE6 is how many different versions of windows there are, upgrading IE from a copy on a magazine disk is always far more risky than doing it direct from MS, at least from "spying" MS you get the right components for your version of windows.
Actually Jeff we "could" blame that on P5 (rightly or wrongly) or don't the server upgrades have anything to do with content paradise and the alleged teaming of Renderosity and Curious Labs? Not of course that they're linked, associated or in any way whatsoever common to each other. We all know that CP and P5 are completely seperate entities. :) Just kidding, of course. :)
I had the same problem with entering renderosity. The problem was my hosts file. During the server upgrade the ip address probably changed. If you clean up the hosts file everything should be back to normal. You can find this file in windows or winntsystem32driversetchosts (no extension). Remove the entries to renderosity and voila.

If you're worried about spying download XP-antispy turn of the auto-update service and download your pathes from fileflash.com, easier and quicker than jumping through hoops at Microsoft. later jbwell, speaking from the throne of Operator Error-dom....I had my motherboard fry and that in and of itself will cause all kinds of problems to surface. I usually take the opportunity to upgrade the hard drive that my root directory is on so this will increase issues. At any rate the error message seems to indicate that you need to log in and have your computer remember your passwords. I had Win2000 do some strange things and I have lost all my personal settings ...favorites etc. on win 98 > 2000...it must be the software...Windows that is it could not be something I did...except maybe ...hmmm....I am not criticising or making light of your problems AND I am not about to share my title or power to bring blue screen death even in XP...!....never underestimate the power of impatience and persistent belief that the computer is just frozen...sometimes it is just having a problem getting things done.... anyway sorry you are having problems....but so far there are few reports of errors turning up in the registration process at CL....
on this computer I have for the internet. I took off Poser 5, serveal reasons, my monitor is too small and it's not going to run right, When I was having trouble with 4. this is win98-2nd ed. 512 rams. gateway COW. I have a work station with Win 2000 on it not connected to internet. Poser 5 is a pain in the ass. But my Poser4 runs great. So On this computer I have no CL programs. I'm on exp. 6 and have no problem with the internet. Except for Ren. and that now is mainly the gallery. I agree Poser 5 needs some serious work on it, so it will at lest load and render right. Untill then I won't use it.
Love is Grandchildren.
I have Win2K SP2 and IE 5.5 SP1 (Use Netscape 7.0 instead) and I have experienced one problem so far with Poser 5 (other than the inherited Poser 4 bugs that stll need to be fixed).
It was during a 144 frame Production mode FireFly render. Poser just kept on eating up Virtual Memory on the disk until it took most of it and brought down my system. I think it might be a bug, but I'm going to render a smaller animation and monitor everything.
yep I can see it clearly, anyone who doesn't have a registered copy or has a warez copy will not be able to get into any poser related site that's part of Content Paradise, what a brilliant idea, what a way to get rid of warez, cut off the only reason they would actually want a warez copy, CL should be applauded not shouted at ;)
I have 2k with SP3 and IE6. No problems at all with the OS. And quite frankly, I have not experienced near the problems that some others are with P5. This thing has been rock solid since I went to sp3. Oh, and I have ME on the same partition, they share IE6 and a number of other programs. I know folks say to install different OS's on different partitions, but that costs a lot of disk space. (ok, there is a little tweaking you have to do to get ME and W2K on the same partition, but not much). And of course, this is a homebuilt puter with a hodge podge of parts in it. I guess if anyone was going to experience oddities, it would be me and quite frankly, I can't complain.
My 'doze partitions are all Win2k. " Sorry but CL has no right messing with our Operating System and stopping us from viewing our own Art work on any site just because they can't do the registration process right. " Err, they do too. The EULA absolves them of any responsibility for your 'puter going "boom". I suspect that if you clear your cookies all will work again. On a side note, as others have mentioned before, it does a heart good to see that the warez kittens won't be able to get to O'sity and such... although I suspect that the membership of O'sity will prolly drop by at least a third if this is indeed a side effect. At least I'll be able to get faster access to the site once it's all said and done :) /P
The part I regret is that none of the Mac users will want to buy the first Mac release until somebody has tested it. If they're average guys like me, they will assume it's full of bugs. No money from Mac testers would mean no budgetting for a patch after they get the beta modules back from India or wherever. Unless they do the entire Mac version in Santa Cruz to avoid repeating the Windows problems, so it's a bug fix of the Windows version.
I registered on WIn98SE with no problem.Entered my serial Number,No Problem, and can access all 3d Sights,no problem.I also Paid for my Poser5 Upgrade. No problem,ButI wish CL would get the patches out soon,Kupa said one would be out last week.Hopefully the one they are working on is a FULL Update and fixes ALL of the bugs ;o).CL has Every right to have you REGISTER your Program, since you paid for it,it should work, email them and ask what happened. If you DON'T have a warez copy then you got nothing to worry about,if people do,then they should rot.

Ohhhhhhh! Boy I have a dozzy here. Ahem how do I start this off. Mad at Curious labs is an understatement. Let's just say it totally trashed my computer system or my copy of IE 6. I just rebuilt from a bad motherboard and after two weeks to get it up and running again I installed poser 5 excitedly hoping to check out this new great program. This is my experience. One I had to enter my code to get it activated, which of course transported me to the poser 5 web site. I then had to enter my previous poser 4 serial no. but instead of getting a your cleared......yes you have an original poser verified installation enjoy your new program I got a....their is a problem with the verification please contact tech support. I then went back to the program to check it out and found it 20 times slower than poser 4 at rendering and did not like the interface at all. The file garbage has to go! I finally gave up and went to or tried to go to renderosity only to find out that I can now no longer get into renderosity. I keep getting a Error including template."/home/poser/public_html/gallery.ez". I can go anywhere on the web it seems but not renderosity.... What has Curious labs done to my access to renderosity? I am typing this out on my other machine that thank god doesn't have the latest version of poser on it. I have uninstalled IE 6 back to 5 and reinstalled IE 6 only to find out I still have the same problem. Hmm a total system reinstall after all this work just to get it back up and running.......Grrrrrrrrr. So as a warning to anyone running windows 2000 beware! And to you beta testers.....shame on you I was under the asumption you had this version checked out and yet you none of you ran into any problems of this magnitude! I don't like my system being toy'd with. My system is dual 1 ghz proc's .....1 gig of ram and the latest 3d labs graphics card. It did not come cheap and I don't appreciate curious labs messing with it! To whomever I read about comparing Curious Labs Poser to the programs used creating Final Fantasy........please give me a break. It costs over $300 and it doesn't work ok......! Final Fantasy worked but they went bankrupt right where I see Curious Labs Going. Following the footsteps of Final Fantasy....except Final Fantasy actually worked. And where is the freakin phone no at curious labs......been disconnected? They trash my browser trying to register the darn program and leave me with no way to contact them besides e mail or fax...Which by from what I have been reading from other forums they don't even answer anyway! So I'm back to poser 4 and stickin with DAZ and I just would like to say Meta Creations Great product wish you hadn't went away........! Oh and has anyone noticed that Curious Labs has not done any upgrades with poser since the buyout from Meta Creations and now this trash they call no 5!...............Yeah I'm pissed!
