Subject: Sizing/Re-sizing Texture Maps in Carrara

Being new to Carrara, I am trying to apply the brick.bmp to a flattened cube. Tried it by first, building a vertex object, then later by simply adding a primitive in the Assembly Room. Results were the same in both cases. The bitmap [A] ends up covering the whole wall as in [C]. I created a work-around by reducing the wall until the bricks were the right size and duplicated it 3x horiz.& vert. Certainly a klunky solution, and one that can't be used often. Assuming that the original .psd was too large, I reduced by 66%. Twice. Didn't seem to affect the results. Can anyone offer a solution? Thanks.

OK, Kelley, Here's the 411 (or at least my take on it) When mapping to a cube where only one side is facing, you simply need to map to a single face. Change the mapping mode to Projection Mapping--->Flat Mapping, then select a single face. Use this as a basis for the texture map. You shouldn't need to tile the map and it should come out OK. The image shows a flat mapped cube with one side mapped only, and the settings I used in the shader editor. Hope this helps! Did you activate the "Tile" option in the color portion of the texture in the shader room? If you activate "Seamless" it will flip each tile horiz. and vert. each time to help it be smoother. Sometimes it works better then other times. Hope this helps.

To all and sundry: I think I just solved my own problem. If you apply 'Brick Wall_01' to an object, you can modify the .psd/bmp 'til Hell won't have it, and Carrara thinks it's still looking at the original 'Brick Wall_01'. But if you change the name, it will recognize the new version. I twigged to this [and not changing the name] by hitting the "Re-Load" icon [2nd folder down] and the modified version of 'Brick Wall_01' loaded just fine. So there are two ways to come at this. This then, begs the original question: is there a way to modify size in Carrara without going back to an editor like Photoshop?
