Subject: Help!! - Problem with DAZ downloads on a Mac

mkdavis ( ) posted Tue, 01 October 2002 at 7:07 PM ยท edited Fri, 09 August 2024 at 11:33 PM

I bought the Lo-Res Mike and Steph package, but can't unstuff the downloaded archives with Stuffit Expander 5.5! I use Mac OS 8.6 (yeah, I know) and Internet Explorer 5.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I sent an e-mail to DAZ, but they haven't replied yet.

I think they're using ver. 6 stuffit files. You'll need to download Stuffit Expander 6.x or 7.

svaughn, Is there a difference between the Stuffit 5 and Stuffit 6/7 formats? I guess I'll have to upgrade! Thanks!

Stuffit 7 has a new format in it.

Before they made me they broke the mold!

Ver. 6 and 7 compress into smaller archives. Expander 7 works sweeter in MacOS X. I use OpenUp for ZIP files as it handles long filenames and paths better. Remember, you don't need to pay for an upgrade on the Expander. I'm waiting for some serious problems to be fixed before I upgrade my Stuffit Deluxe. I'm using MacOS X and ver. 7 still hasn't resolved long filename issues and MagicMenu doesn't work in 10.2.1.

I had the same problem but used Netscape and it worked fine ... had the same problem with Expander 6 as well. But just with IE.

Use Netscape to download. Sometimes they send a binhex (hqx) file mislabelled with the .sit extension, so you may need to de-binhex it to a real .sit file first, and you may also need to drag it onto a stuffit file-typer script.
