Now you have some idea of just how lucky we all are to have people like WhiteCrow, Zygote and Dedicated Digital in there and batting for us. Not only do they offer classy free models on a weekly basis (or daily in the case of WhiteCrow) but they offer sensibly priced affordable models as well. And that's before we even get to all those talented individuals who provide us with excellent textures and models free of charge via the free stuff pages or at a modest price via BBay. If you want really scary - ask someone about custom modelling a figure for which you want all of the rights. I guaran-damn-tee your wallet will go into hiding for a month :) Paul
Commercial marketing is a greedy business. It's always the almighty dollar. I doubt if they sell these high priced items in mass quantities, though. I'm just wondering how Victoria will sell after she's boosted to $99 after April 8. I'm sure everyone will grab her at $60 now, and sales will go way down after the price goes up. It would serve them better if they just kept he price at $60 permanently (and lower it even more later on when newer characters come in), and they would sell a lot more. It's the old principle of selling in bulk. Charge less, sell more, and make a bigger profit in the long run. That principle has sort of died out as time goes by. Too bad companies don't understand that. I know a lot of hard work goes into creating these things, and I'm not arguing that. But I do have to say that I see a lot of greed in the commercial sector everywhere. You can't even go into the grocery store without bankrupting yourself. Unfortunately, it's a fact of life we just have to live with. It's human nature. Only my observations. Melanie (Hmmm, this might help me make up my mind whether to buy Vicki or not before April 8 ~ oh no! I'm weakening here.)
Melanie, I agree with you about the principle of "bulk" sales. So does Zygote. That's why you can get their models at the price you can, even though you may feel they are still more than you wish to pay. They hope that the Poser community is big enough that volume sales will make it worthwhile to offer their models at these prices. When you think about it, the added Poser functionality actually makes the Poser model better than their other models targeting the professionals! However, I doubt that the Poser community will ever be big enough to support $20 models if the modeling is a sole source of income. As for offering a discount to early buyers, I think that's quite generous. When was the last time you saw a car or television manufacturer do that (and they have a lot more customers)? Usually the price doesn't go down until nobody wants it anymore. I too would like to see lower prices. But when a paperback book can cost me $10 and a half decent dinner for 2 a $100, then Victoria doesn't seem so expensive anymore. I'll certainly get longer use from her!
Keep this in mind: I asked Zygote for a quote on a knight in full plate mail for personal use only: $4000.00. A lot of work goes into creating one of those models - yes even a dolphin! If they charge $199.00 for something like Millie, that is definitely fair in my eyes. look around on the web, some 3D companies charge A TON OF CA$H for custom models. Zygote is still pretty cheap when you compare them to others.

Yesterday i stumbled upon a biomechanics site and what i have seen there was terrifying. they offer a dolphin for not less that 600.00 usd. what greed can make with people. i know the reason why: some of us will just buy anything for any price.
