Subject: HELP! "Insufficient disk to render at current res"

Corum_Anime ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2002 at 4:35 PM · edited Sat, 16 November 2024 at 11:40 PM

I changed my PC, and now I get this message when I do big renders: "Insufficient Disk space to render at the current resolution" I'm wondering if its that I copied Poser from my D drive to this new C drive, or if Poser is confused by finding more than 32 gig on the drive, or if my virtual memory is too big (512mb RAM, 768Mb swapfile) Its a better PC, in all ways. But I can only render in a window, not at 960x960. Please help me!

if you have p5, go get the patch, it is listed as one of the fixes!

Sorry, no, its Poser 4. It worked fine on the 384mb XP Pro PC, but this is on the 512Mb XP Home PC.

You need the "memory updater" from CL... ... it enable Poser to use swapfile sizes above 2MB. H:)

Scrub that ... ... read 2GB! H:)

LOL! I'll look for the updater anyway. I solved it. The message should read: "You copied your Poser directory to a new PC without reinstalling it first, dumbass!" If it didnt run at all, I would have figured to install it, but a weird error confused me. Thanks for the suggestions! Now you know what to do if someone else has this problem. I just installed off my CD, put 4.03 on to make sure, then renamed the directory and put my old one in its place. All fine now!

Blimey... I suppose the Poser 4 registry entry is useful for something after all! H:)

I post this at least every other week-- any chance of getting it in the FAQ's??? It's specifically for putting Poser on its own drive and it works. This is copied verbatim from the old CL site when the FAQs were more easily available. Emily Poser 4 Poser can't render high resolution images. Error appears "Insufficient disk space to render" After some intense investigation we believe we have a work around. It turns out that Windows NT 4, 2000 and Windows XP must be using some space for the pagefile.sys file on the same partition that Poser is installed, to render large images. The pagefile.sys is the virtual memory or temp space for Windows. An approximate minimum would 10 MB. This amount might have to be increased for more complex scenes and animations. The maximum should be 10 MB or greater. To modify the Virtual Memory: Windows NT 4 = Right Click my computer. Click the performance tab. Click change. Click the drive Poser is installed on. Enter 10 in the Initial size field. Enter 10 or more in the maximum size field. Click set. Click OK. Click OK. Click OK. You may have to restart the System. Windows 2000 = Right click My computer. Select the Advanced tab. Click Performance option. Click Change. Select the drive Poser is installed on. Enter 10 in the Initial size field. Enter 10 or more in the maximum size field. Click set. Click OK. Click OK. Click OK. You may have to restart the System. Windows XP = Click Start. Right Click My Computer in the menu. Select Properties. Select the Advanced tab. Click Settings, next to Performance. Select the advanced tab. Click Change. Select the drive Poser is installed on. Click the Custom size button. Enter 10 in the Initial size field. Enter 10 or more in the maximum size field. Click set. Click OK. Click OK. Click OK. You may have to restart the System. Poser will now be able to render up to its maximum size of 4090 pixels x 4090 pixels @ any resolution

I run Win2K Pro with a 512Mb swap file. This is usually enough for Poser 4 but Poser 5 sometimes increases it to over 700Mb. Now I have to save up for a 3.6Ghz Pentium 5 system with two processors and 2Gb of fast RAM....which will probably be available by the time I save up the cash.

Hate to burst your bubble Corum_Anime, but after upgrading to a new XP system, installing P4 & patch, & dragging my old directories over.... I still got the "not enough space" message (with a 1.5Gb swap file.) I'd never gotten it before with the older, much smaller W95 system, and had previously done large renders with the new system with no back-talk. Don't know what actually fixed it, but did the following: swapped root dir "Poser.rsr" file from new installation with the file from the older installation. Rebooted & it worked ok, so, feeling daring, I swapped the original file back again and Poser worked fine again at big renders. I know that really does not make sense, but hey, its working again. I'm beginning to think that this is like the old "Memory" errors in P3. It was a generic "I'm Confused" response from Poser and did not really indicate any problem with memory.

Queri, that fix has never worked for me. I read a post suggesting that the temp directory in Documents and Settings (Win2k) be exmptied on a regular basis. Since I've been doing that I've been able to render at 1300x1300 100dpi. (havent tried higher yet)
