Subject: Gradient bump?

I wanted to render the MilDragon yesterday. Everything went fine but then I noticed that his skin looked real flat - nothing in compare to my nice P4 render. I looked into the material room and noticed that P5 plugged the bump map into gradient bump and not into bump. Why that? I had to plug everything into bump to get the same results as in P4 - can't P5 just take the info from the Matfiles and do what's written in there?

Besides that, Mildragon rendered with Firefly and all boxes checked rendered very fast (maybe because I had only the Mildragon in the scene LOL).

The MAT files for the MilDragon are set up for Poser 4 and Poser 5 plugs the bump map into the gradient bump node, which is specifically for .bum files. It doesn't care if the bump file is a jpeg, it still puts it there. You should be able to leave the bump map in the gradient bump node, just adjust the value setting to get results. Applying MAT pose files that have bump maps associated with them will always put the bump map into the gradient bump node. Creating MAT pose files in Poser 5 also requires putting the bump map there, otherwise, it ignores the bump map node and the MAT pose file shows NO_MAP for the bump map. To use a bump map in the bump map node and save it for later use in Poser 5, save the material to the material room. To creat a MAT pose file that can be used in P4, PP, and P5, put the bump map in the gradient bump node before creating the MAT pose file.

Thanks jelisa although I still don't really understand why this program has a bump node in the material room and refuses to use it when the Matfile tells it to do so. I had PoserProPack and it uses jpg instead of .bum files.

Again, thank you very much - I will try to save it to the material room and see what happens then :-).

Hrm, for my dragon pic, I pluged it into both, got pretty good results.
