Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 04 3:06 am)
I was getting the C Exception errors with the Hydra textures. I dropped those down from 5000x5000 to 4000x4000 and the errors went away, so Poser can handle textures greater than 2048x2048. My system is similar to yours except I only have a GeForce 440MX with 64 MB. It will be interesting to see what it looks like after the patch to see if it looks even better because of the power of 2 thing.

After reading the following post in the forum regarding texture sizes (ronstuff post), I began experimenting with texture sizes trying to eliminate two problems I was consistently receiving. The first problem I had noticed even before SR-1, was a thin grid line in the texture during rendering of my figures. This grid was attributed I believed from the grid pattern firefly uses while rendering and produced small gaps in the texture, as if firefly missed some spots occasionally. In addition to the above I was receiving the C exception error frequently especially during rendering. This started occuring post SR-1, where I believe Poser 5 previous to SR-1 just crashed or appeared to have crashed. After reading the above post I started playing around with the Asia texture. The texture was bosy (3000x3000 at 28 resolution) and head (1932x1932 at 72 resolution). My first experiment was to increase the head and body to 4096 and the head to 2048. Received a C exception shortly after applying the material. I of course knowing little about texture requirements and rendering in general being a stank geeky but artsy hobbyist, thought this may have been because I upped the body texture to 72 resolution. So I tried again, at 28 resolution for the body. Same problem C exception. Doesn't take a technical genius to figure out, the C exceptions I was receiving at least are due to some problem with the textures at that point. I reduced the body texture to 2048 and upped the resolution to 72 again, and the texture applied flawlessly and I didn't receive a C exception at any time. Here's the part I can't answer without adding more RAM. Currently I'm running an Athlon 2.1Ghz, 512k DDR RAM, 128MB Geforce 4. The body texture at 4096 is about 48MB uncompressed according to Photoshop. at 2048 it takes 12MB. Is it the RAM in my system at 512MB or is Poser 5 having a problem handling textures over 2048 (in the power of 2) Using textures in the power of 2, also cured the problems with the grid effect over the textures I noticed, but now I'm curious if Poser 5 can handle 4096x4096 textures. ANy ideas here?
