Subject: Can anyone suggest a way to convert *.3dmf

Dear friends! Can anyone suggest a way to convert *.3dmf format to .obj/.dxf or anything Bryce can understand (i. e. import from)? I also have Lightwave and Max, so, perhaps there is a way to convert *.3dmf to anything importable to them...? Thanks a lot in advance, Anthony Pontigary.

Bryce 4 & 5 can import 3dmf's with the following file extensions; .t3d (ASCII) .3mf (Binary) .b3d (Binary) But, I'm guessing, as you said, you have a .3dmf. I don't know a freeware converter that does it. "Deep Exploration" doesn't support it. "PolyTrans" will do it, but it is expensive, and the demo is limited in how much of your mesh will be converted, and how much will be left behind. PolyTrans: http://www.okino.com/conv/conv.htm

There are several buildings online at the link above in 3dmf format. Design workshop home is $79.99 at http://www.artifice.com/dw_classic.html You can get the lite version to draw buildings at the same site. Lite won't save in anything but 3dmf, but you can see if the program will open your files before you buy the full version. It will save in at least dxf.

3DMF is apparently Apple's QuickDraw3D 3DMetaFile. http://www.web3d.org/vrml/vft.htm is a list of file conversion programs. The first on the list converts 3dmf into VRML 97 format. And there are other programs that can convert VRML97 into yet other formats, lower on the page.

You can also use Deep Exploration for file conversion. You can download a fully functional 30 day trial from the attached link.

Wow...thank's ttops, I was just going off a page of specs on the Right Hemisphere website. They obviously don't list them all or something. Seriously, good to know, the forum gets these kinds of questions frequently. Thanks! AgentSmith

Perhaps some CAD system can read *.3dmf and save it as *.dxf at least?

Phantast ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2002 at 11:40 AM

I went down this road a while back. As far as I can see, there's no way to get .3dmf into Bryce and the folks who distribute stuff as .3dmf don't want you to be able to.
