Growth wise, shape or profile? The tree shape (profile) is open rounded crown. Growth to 115ft. Each tree differs as to branch curlyness depending on enviromnet. Or are you talking about the reeeally twisted branches of the...drat, I lost the name, they're used for home deco, and are real expensive, what is the name, it'll come to me....

What you describe sounds alot like Mountain Laurel, although Turkey Oak has a variety that has spiky leaves that are variegated green to yellow, and the branches grow laterally and are twisty...just becoming poplar as ornamentals in landscaping...:)

A satyr and a dryad. I'll try to cobble up a starting WIP today or tomorrow and post it here. The Bryce part is not a big problem, but the morphing and/or propping in Poser will be. Of course, the picture could be done without it, but that won't be that. Hmmm, I just remembered that I could do the morphing in a modelling program. We'll see.
