Subject: saving presets in Bryce5

I amde the perect carrot using metaballs in Bryce, only to find out I cannot save it as a preset because it is grouped. What can I do to save it and import it into the pic I want it to be in? I tried merging it but that didn't work too well either. Will I have to start over and create it in the picture am working on?

Select your carrot. Click the triangle next to the Create button to get to the Objects screen. Click Add, name your carrot. When you load up the scene you want to add the carrot to, go back to the Objects screen. Click on the picture of the carrot you save, click check mark. Your object should now be in your scene, ready to be tweeked for size and position. I hope these instructions are complete enough to work for you.

You should be able to do a Copy of the selected group, then open a new file and Paste the group in. HTH- Dan

If none of that works, open the scene that you want to put the carrot into and then do a file>merge. If you didn't remove the ground plane from your carrot scene, just select the ground from the carrot after you merge it and then delete it.

tjohn, I did try to save it as a preset, Bryce won't let me. I keep getting the error message saying: groups/hierarchies with cameras cannot be saved as presets! Boomer, I tried to merge the two files and the carrot 'fell apart' when I tried tp position it in the merged file. I will try the copy paste

I think it was only having the camera in the group that caused the problem. Remove the camera (perspective) from the group and all will be well.

Aaah. I wondered how to remove the camera...Duh I knew it was the perspective but it never clicked in this peabrain to just delete it. :) thanks tjohn!

Almost ;)

Uh, you didn't mention the camera was in the group in the first message. I've done this before too and have learned to avoid it automatically now. It's easy to grab the camera by accident when selecting. Maybe they should add a setting to make it harder to select the camera accidently. Glad your problem was solved!

I never realy even thought about the camera. I mean that 'square' in the middle of the page is just always there. I am definitly aware of it now. LOL

I always make that camera invisible in the attributes dialog just so I won't accidentally select it.

Good idea.:)
