I have one question one for my home page... here on renderosity. I'm trying to change it's image and it won't let me.. :~(. My second question is my Products are no longer in zip format but exe format now... is that allowed on the store and free stuff??? :) thanks

Hi VictorRNA, Are you getting any errors when trying to update your Home Page? It could also be an issue with your ISP and proxy server cache. I;ve seen this happen often. The ISP doesnt flush the proxy servers cache often enough. The new image does get uploaded but you continue to see the old one due to the cache that hasnt been refreshed. Check the image in 24 hrs and see if the new one appears. If it does you might want to contact your ISP and see if they can flush their proxy cache on a more regualar basis. .exe files. Yes you can use them. However, It limits access to MAC users who cant use them. They can use .zip files. In the store you need to list that the file is PC Only and that the format is a self installing .exe file so MAC users wont purchase the product(s). Free Stuff is Ok as well but I would also suggest letting the member know they are .exe files as well. I hope this helps you out. Clint

I think allowing EXE files in the free stuff is a very bad idea. I will not load any executable unless I am 100% certain of the integrity of the source. Since anyone can post in the Free Stuff area (and there is no checking of any of the files submitted), I see a huge risk in allowing EXE files and the viruses they can transmit. Presumably an EXE file in the Marketplace has already been tested and verified as virus-free (they are checked, right?)

"Presumably an EXE file in the Marketplace has already been tested and verified as virus-free (they are checked, right?) " 100% correct. Clint

I automatically throw any free stuff that is .exe away. Too big a risk.

Clint I am glad u check exe and zip files alike for viruses... but i think it's a good idea as well for the person who is sending that file makes sure they are virus free. :). Ok i'm try up loaded the picture...... uhmmm nuts! nope it just goes back to my home page with the same old image.... sigh maybe it hates my picture! LOL it's in jpg format... and 167 kb. Sigh... thanks clint.

It's not just a matter of viruses. With an EXE file, a malicious programmer could do just about anything with your system. They could set up a spy program that records your passwords, they can wipe your system, or they can even take over your system and use it in an attack on other systems. Anti virus programs won't help in these cases. That's why executables can be so dangerous. You may never even know your computer has been compromised.
