Subject: mpeg4 codec: QT 6 Pro or Divx Pro?

Subject says it all, which shall I buy? Things I need to know: - compatibility with MacOS, OS X, Linux... (are mpeg4 players available?) - compatibility with Flash/Shockwave - compatibility with video editing software for Windows (Premiere, After Effects) - browser integration - exist better/cheaper alternatives? Right now I'm in favor of QT, but I want your input. ;)

First of all, divx doesn't get along well with some video editing apps. I use combustion and it doesn't work THAT well. I haven't tested quicktime MPEG4 yet. About compatibility issues: To play MPEG4 you need the quicktime 6 player, and for playing divx files you need the codec. Both are available for windows, mac and linux. Browser integration: both are the same. Better alternatives? I haven't found any. Maybe Sorenson 3 but you still need quicktime to play those files. But if you ask me. I am using Divx right now. Mainly because the filesizes are smaller.

I say use whichever one will end up being able to be viewed by the most people. Personally, I think DIVX would be the choice. but wait, now there's the mp4 audio codec.... ooooooh no.

Watch out for which version of Divx is playable on Mac. The Divx codec people tend to keep Mac a few updates behind...
