Subject: Un-Parented Props in a CR2

lesbentley ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2002 at 12:26 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:32 PM

I need to have a cr2 load a prop (P4 square) at the same time as a figure, but the prop must NOT be parented to the figure.

I add the prop to the cr2 by parenting it to the figure in Poser4, then save the figure to a pallet.

I can remove the parenting in a text editor by changing the parent in the actor to UNIVERSE, and deleting its addChild statement in the figure section.

THE PROBLEMS ARE; 1, THAT THE PROP NO LONGER SHOWS UP IN THE PROPS DROPDOWN MENU; 2, THE PROP WILL NOT SAVE TO A PZ3 (or at least it isn't there when the pz3 is reloaded).

Can anyone tell me how to overcome these problems?

P.S. The addToMenu flag is on (1) for the prop.

heyas; i was messing with this before, to create (probably the same thing you are) a center of gravity to point my wookie hair at. it just doesn't work, bud :/ wait.... are you sure the prop is there? even if it isn't in the list? open a pp2 file and look at the 'doc' section. the 'doc' section tells poser to add a prop to the scene..... then look at a pz3... i think the pz3 has a doc section, doesn't it? okay, so if a cr2 is a stripped pz3, and you strip out the usual stuff, but DON'T strip out the doc info....??? maybe? do the prop positioning, the pointing, etc etc, and then save as a pz3, and then strip it as a cr2. actually, it would be faster to just change the extension to cr2, load it as a figure and see if it works. should you or any of your im team be caught or killed, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your action. good luck, les.

Yes it's gravity. The prop is there, it's in the cr2, shows up in the Hierarchy Editor, and as ultimate proof, it WORKS! The problem is not that it does not work, it works very well (and it loads from the cr2). The problem is that to change the direction of gravity say to simulate wind on a flame I need to move the gravity prop, I can't move it if I can't call it up in the menu to access its dials, and it's too far away in outer space to grab it with the mouse. The other problem is that whilst it loads OK from the cr2 it won't load from a pz3, though it is in there (in both actor sections). The pz3 does have a doc section, and I tried putting an addActor reference in it, but that didn't help. Perhaps I could put a doc section in the cr2, but I'm not sure where it would go, and since it didn't work for the pz3 it probably won't work for the cr2 either. Perhaps I'm stuck with gravity that always points down, it must be a law of nature or something :(

Since you can't reach it from the menu but you know it's there, can you control it via ERC, with the ValueParm dial placed inside some other actor that -is- in the menu?

I suspect the ERC should -not- be based in the actor that is meant to be pulled by gravity, but in some static piece. Infinite loops and all that......

Blood song your idea of making a striped pz3 worked. For some stupid reason (probably brain death), I originally tried saving a pz3 with the figure/prop as loaded from the cr2, doh!!! Instead of just recreating the original working scene and saving that. Eventually I woke up, now I have complete control of gravity. Soon I shall control the entire UNIVERSE, hee, hee, he, hee, haa, har, hee, hee...
