Never realised til today if you import a grouped object you need to perform the smoothing on each part - it doesn't work as a group

It does for me! I never ungroup before smoothing. That's on OBJ and 3DS thought, I don't know about the others.

try it with a DXF - smooth as group then select individual parts and you WILL find they can be smoothed even further. The other option of course for me to sit down and shut up

Maybe it's a bug in older versions of bryce wich is fixed in a never version or a patched version? I can't recall ever having this problem.

Works for me, too. Can't you get a change by smoothing any object or group of objects a second time? Also, a lot of imported objects don't need smoothing.
