Subject: Importing .3ds and .dxf objects

I'm 3D Home Architect Professional 5.0 by Broderbund to export objects as .3ds and .dxf files. When I try to import them into Poser 4 or Poser 5, the objects themselves import but not the textures. Instead of a brick house, for example, I just get a "house" object. The brick textures, the shag carpet textures, the wallpaper textures, etc. do not get imported. Does anyone know how I can get the object to bring its textures with it?

Dxf files will not texture in Poser period, no matter what you do. For 3ds files, generally the best way to handle them is have the textures in the same folder as the 3ds when you import. The only drawback is that if you ever move that folder anywhere else, Poser wont be able to find the textures and you'll have to bring them all in manually.

I wouldn't swear to it but I think Poser's 3DS import is also somewhat less than perfect at times with textures. Your best bet (other than the above sugestion about locatin of texture files) is to use obj format whenever possible with poser. If the program doesn't export obj then converting from 3DS to obj first would be an option. Once you have an obj file, you can always use UVMapper to handle any texturing problems.
