Hiya folks, Quick question: how well does Carrara run in Jaguar as opposed to 9.x? Im wondering if its worth it to install it on my Pismo (G3/500 with 384 megs of RAM). On the one hand I woudl like to move to OS X, but on the other its not like 9 is causing me any problems so Im a little leary of changing it. Thanks, Max

I'm running Carrara on a G4 733Mhz and 700something of RAM. It's working OK with Mac OSX 10.2 I'd stick with Mac OS9 until you change to a G4.... My opinion...

Thanks Velarde. I cant afford to buy a new mac right now. But I might add another 512 of ram. Well see. Thanks again. Max

I run it on a G3/500MHz iBook 384MB RAM, running 10.2. It's no speed demon, but it gets the job done.

Since you don't have a second processor, I would only go to Jaguar on that machine if Carrara is unstable on OS9. I've had really good luck with the patched version on Jaguar, as long as I avoid the texture room. I've tried Jaguar on a machines that bracket yours in speed. 8.6 or 9.x will be much more responsive just on an OS level for these slower machines. But I have to admit that I use Jaguar on them because I just can't work in the old systems after tasting the good stuff.

I have a related question about Carrara performance. Right now I have 384 megs of ram on my laptop. I think Ive allocated about 200 to Carrara. My hard drive probably has no more than a gig of spcae left on it. 1) does Carrara work a little like photoshop in terms of using a scratch disk? i.e. do I need plenty of free space in order for things to go as smooth as possible? Would i see an increase in generel performance if I had more disk space? 2) Would it really make a difference if I bought more ram? Right now I have a 128 and 256 in my pismo and was thinking of swapping the 128 for a 512. Im going to be using my laptop more in the coming months and since I cant afford to just buy a tower I was wondering if it would be worth while to make the above mentioned upgrades. Thanks for the advice everyone, I appreciate it. Cheers, Max
