What are the differences between file formats between Bryce 2 and Bryce 5? Are they incompatible?

Bryce 5 can load Bryce 2 files but bryce 2 can't load Bryce 5. Same with other versions.

Yep, backwards compatible for 5, but not forward compatible for earlier versions. (It has to do with hindsight being more accurate than foresight, probably).
