Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 28 9:33 pm)
Needing to convert a JPG to a BUM before loading is pretty common, - JPGs download so much faster & the file is much smaller, nearly everyone distributes BUM files as JPG. The readme file in each download usually explains what files to convert. (Just load a basic PoserProp like the square or cube, and apply the JPG to the bump channel, and Poser converts and saves it for you). If your download is asking for an OBJ that wasn't included, it usually means the download was an add-on for another item. For instance, if you download a free Character Pak for Victoria or Victoria 2, you'll get that error if you try to use it without owning Victoria already. A lot of the free downloads are add-ons to commercial products, and you have to buy the original products to make them work; A word of caution - It's 100% okay to ask where/how to buy a specific OBJ file or product here, but it's absolutely forbidden to ask anyone to send it to you, or offer to trade for it. That kind of request is usually considered an attempt to trade in "WAREZ", which is one of the primary bann-able offenses here (not suggesting you would do that - just make sure you phrase any requests clearly). If your unclear what product is required by a download even after reading the readme, you can post the name of the OBJ file from the error message here, and someone here can usually tell you what product it needs and where to buy. There are often exceptions, but if you post specifics here, you can usually pick up enough tips to figure it out...
YOu can open up the cr2 files in notepad and see what the OBJ is called and were its looking for it then do a search for it. At the same time you can edit the texture map name so it uses the JPG not the BUM. In note pad use the find option and put in " runtime " A bit confuseing at first but easy to catch on to how it works.

Not that I was about to ask anyone for a obj file. But I wouldnt have known not to ask for the "parent" characters obj file. Good looking out. (like michealStephVickiect's obj = No no..right?) I'm sure that is the problem is that I installed the add on's as their own characters and not in the same folder as the parent. Am I right, or am I still clueless? Thanks for the help guys. Any other No No's that a newbee might not be aware of feel free to lay'em on me. As I never would have thought that the obj rule was in existence, let alone a banable offense.
Actually the prohibition extends 'way beyond trading in just OBJ files - it extends to trading in ANY commercial product, in whole or in part. And, by extension, no linking to or spreading of info about any WAREZ sites, or file-sharing software that allows access to WAREZ. Even the free stuff postings have to be either 100% original work by the member posting it, or accompanied by authorization from all original creators. In the margin of every page - under the "Renderosity" heading is a link to "Terms of Service" (Usually referred to as TOS). The TOS are the rules established for the whole Renderosity membership. There are a few "grey areas" members occasionally gripe or argue about, and sometimes they're changed/updated, but the Anti-WAREZ rules are pretty much an absolute. All members are expected to be familiar with the TOS. If anyone does post such a request there's usually an informal competition for as many members as possible to post in the thread making fun of them before a Forum Moderator or Administrator steps in to delete posts, lock threads, or Bann as they feel necessary. As I mentioned above, any errors involving missing files, just post the details here, and you'll get pointed to where to buy any products necessary, or (in some instances) where it may be an additional free download somewhere that you're missing (a lot of VERY generous people post really terrific things from time to time).
Thank leather, I keep seeing you say WAREZ, am I to believe that there are people that actually get poser items from WAREZ sites? The pop-ups alone make those BS sites out of the question. Let alone the "vote for me BS". Just to put myself and you at ease, I dont pay for poser stuff(other than the actual software), yet would never download anything from any WAREZ pop-up trap sites. I say put you at ease simply due to your subtle implications that yours truely would visit such trashy sites. Not here sir. Thanks though. All my missing obj files are usually from Renderosity (free stuff section), and like you advised, it's being handled as best as time will afford. Peace out leather.

I am forever getting these annoying errors that tend to either be looking for a lost/missing obj. or .bum file. 9 times out of 10 these errors are occur when the item I'm loading didnt come with a obj. file, or the texture map it's looking for isnt a bum file, but rather a jpeg. Even after poser converts the jpeg into a bump map it still doesnt recognize the file. I suck at textures and as of now am disgusted with my poser comprehension skills. Hep me peez? What do I do if there is no obj. file included in 1/2 the dl's I've been getting from renderosity?
