Iyov was stuck, and had been for a long time; he could see that the planets and stars moved in orderly ways, but he still could not explain the motion mathematically - there always seemed to be some exception or departure from the paths he predicted. Frustrated and a bit despairing, he went bed. Tired, he fell asleep, and as the night wore on, a bright moon lit gathering dew on the windows with faint sparkles. Suddenly, he awoke - a sound - quiet scuffing and faint thumps, coming from the study. He tossed on some clothes and went to investigate; things had been moved on his desk! Yes, the inkwell had certainly been right against the bookend when he went to bed. But the doors and windows were all secure. Then, he realized that while the inkwell was no longer against the bookend, something else was. He sat in the chair and stared - there was a wee little door beside the bookend. He pulled out the book which was just on the other side, but on that side, the bookend was just a plain wooden bookend, as it always had been. * click * The tiny door opened, and light faintly shone out from... inside? And out stepped a tiny woman, moving gracefully and lightly. He marveled at her beauty and the wonder of it all, and so it took a few moments for him to notice that the light was from a forest in bright twilight on the other side of the doorway, with a little path leading to the door. He glanced up at the windows of his house; it was midnight dark outside. His attention bolted back to the tiny lady - she looked up at him, and held forth one hand as if in invitation, and then pointed with the other to his observatory desk across the room.
