Description

'Shore Leave' --------------- It's eleven o'clock at night somewhere on the river 'Thames'. The 'Britannia' and The 'Royal Sovereign' are anchored behind the 'Victory'. Most of the crews have gone ashore and the senior officers of all three ships are dining aboard the 'Britannia'. ----------------------------------------------- Ok, it's not historically correct and some 'expert' will probably find fault - he usually does :) - But hey it's just a picture! ------------------------------------------------ Vue 5 Inf, 3D Studio Max and Photoshop. ------------------------------------------------ I thank you for taking the time to look, it's much appreciated. Tony

It's more than just a picture, it is a fantastic artwork. Your explanation as to why there is no crew visible is totally convincing! ;) Brilliant work again. Vote!

Great composition - although the line of ships naturally draws the eye to the left, it then comes back to the cluster of detail on the right hand side. Well done, I like this one.

It's not just a picture. It's a great picture. Wonderful details. As for crew, they'd not be more than a pixel or two at that distance. I doubt anybody would be able to see them, if they were there. I particulary like the background elements. Excellent, my friend!

Awesome! This is so wonderful. The mood is just excellent and I don't know about the historical accuracy, but it sure seems pretty accurate and historical to me. As a lover of naval history and history in general, all I can say is EXCELLENT work. And vote...

Yeah, sorry, :o) this "expert" (LOLOLOL) did find one fault, but hey if you want to render something that is, or was real, then why not try for accuracy? Just one small crit, and that's more about your backstory: During the Napoleonic War, the Royal Navy was crewed by men mostly impressed from life on land. The captains and Admirals, with very few exceptions, would NEVER allow their crews ashore on anything other than official business, and then usually only the Captian's or Admirals boatcrew, or very trusted crew. Dessertion was always a very real fear of the commander of the ship or fleet, especially after the mutinies at Spithead and the Nore in 1797. The large ships-of-the-line, as in this render, would anchor further out in the harbor or bay, to forestall any attempt by the crew to "jump ship". The render itself is good, reminds me of a still from one of the old hollywood movies, like "Damn the Defiant". Oh, one other observation: this is a night scene, yes? The birds are out of place. But a good job, nonetheless..... :o)
