Description

photographed this firey red orchid growing wild along the Kalalau trail on the north shore of Kauai (one of the hawaiian islands). Absolutely beautiful place. I was only there for 5 days but could have easily spent months in this paradise. The Kalalau trail goes for 11 miles into the Napali coastline of Kauai, a terrain so rugged they cant put a road throught it. I encountered this orchid about 200 yards into the trail and never went much farther than that. The picture is not the best I realise; needed to be focused better on the flowers. There were many orchids growing wild on the islands but this was the most unique and beautiful one I had encountered so I thought it worth posting. Photo taken with an old 2.1 megapixel sony digital camera.
