BIO
I spent 5 years working for a leading Park Ave, advertising firm. From there I moved on and I am currently a Telecommunications and Networking professional working on projects around the world. I get to do 3D for my job but not nearly as much as I'd like. Lightwave, Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver are but a few apps in which I am proficient.

the gate's pretty straightforward (kudos for finding a filled-in font..;), but the central effect is a bit harder to do..welcome to the club..great modeling.

The event horizon on the show is done using footage of real liquid composited for the event horizon. Actually a swimming pool if I remember correctly. With lots of specularity and reflection. As the EH in this render is a flat disk getting the reflective values right is a royal pain. I'll do a displacement object in it's place then any reflection maps and raytracing will work better. It still will not be the same as the show effect.

So far so good, keep up the cool work pnevai!
