At one point, on the way down a steep zig-zagging path, I put my camera back in its case and then stupidly dropped it.
To my horror it bounced and tumbled down possibly 150 feet and out of sight.
There were about 10 of us in the group, and although everyone helped me looked for it as they made their way down, it got to a point that it couldn't have gone much further.
It was obvious that the group wouldn't spend too much time helping me look for it and were anxious to get down, I don't blame them as it was a long wet day and the camera couldn't be one piece after such a fall.
I felt sick as I started to think of the hundreds of pictures I was about to loose and scrabbled about in growing panic searching for it.
Then from high up behind us came the shout of "GOT IT!".
We had all managed to pass the camera by, but Robert,(pictured here in red) one of the Colletts organisers had held back and searched an area we had missed further up and found it!
The real surprise was that it works fine, although its sporting a hefty dent on top. The case is heavily padded, this is the second camera its saved like this, a worthwhile invertment I think.
I promised Robert a couple of beers which I still owe him so I'll have to go back again next year.

You must be the luckiest man on earth and I think this Robert earned a good meal instead of a beer ! My old camera felt from less than one meter... and died ! It wasn't a good camera, but it made good pictures...

There are those moments of spontaneous hugs to express gratitude and this could have been one of them! What a joy to get back the cam! Fortunately there are those people! :) Fantastic work!

the rocks look a wee bit crumbly... maybe the fall was softer than first thought... even so... that's how to give em character huh?

Yikes! Another dropped camera story...150ft and no damage except a ding? Man were you lucky...I've heard of people getting out of there cars and hitting it on the way out and the camera stopped working...Glad everything is fine or we would be missing these great images....Well done! Aloha~
