This is a familiar image in my country.
It always seemed to me that the poor have no dignity, and by painting this man, I wanted to make his suffering real to others, and somehow convey his inherent dignity and worth.
I wonder if it would challenge us to notice people poorer than ourselves...

"The poor you will always with you..." said Jesus, as a woman annointed his feet with Alabaster. You will always find the poor, cheek by jowl with the rich -- skyscrapers adjacent to slums and shanties. Excellent work!!!! CONGRATS

What touching work. This is also a very familiar image for me in my own country...may I ask where you are from? I believe you have succeeded in showing the inner dignity and solace of the poor in this lovely painting. Truly, what must one say in response to such widespread suffering and to those who simply refuse to notice...

The first thing I noticed were the eyes. The lack of eyes within the space provided for them. I think of the saying that "the eyes are the windows to the soul". I wonder if the void that is in your image is a representation of the emptiness that this man feels as one of the unseen. And/or do the eyes reflect the indifference to those who pass by, who cannot even take the time to see the living soul of another human being that might challenge their conscience. This is a powerful painting that touches my soul. Thank you for this gift of an excellent work of art.
