Description
First official off road for the Pitch Black Project.
Bald Mountain south of Mount Rainier...
Well, it was the plan anyway (GRIN). Ray and I ended up off the beaten path a bit into some more technical stuff.
Better map next time... and maybe a GPS...
True to the Off Road Prime Directive:
Build IT, Break It, Fix it, Repeat...
Popped the tire on something when we were coming through the rocks. Heard the tire let go, but I could n't stop where I was so I had to ride it to the top.
Fortunately, we found a tree stand at the top.
Ironically, the high lift jack I ordered was sitting still in the box at home since it just arrived, so we had to stack rocks and wood under the lift point to offset the lack of jacking height from the stock Jeep jack that came with my Wrangler.

South of? Or south east ... Been a long time but looks just as nice as ever. :-). Lots of fossels, interesting geology there abouts. Whats pitch black?

About 8 miles east of Cliffdell, WA. "Pitch Black" is my self-assigned project name for the Jeep. The pictures came from one of the pullouts on the way up. Interestingly enough, the road up was pretty much gravel. When we got to the last 100 feet or so, it turned into almost a sandstone structure--sharp and slippery. Next time we run that (there is a more technical run called Moon rocks nearby--Ray wants to tackle that one), I'll definitely air down the tires. I think the tires might have been overinflated for the terrain.
