------------- The Sisters of Isis

Of all the odd titles and strange twists of Arrallon, one of the most glaring, perhaps is the naming of the Church of Isis. The two high priestesses, for there are currently two of them, though that number has been different over the years,... anyway,... the two high priestesses hold the title of 'The Daughters of Isis'. They are the ones who are blessed with the Holy Avatar of Isis herself. When Isis deems it necessary to get directly involved in mortal affairs in the Symballan Empire, it is through one of these two, or both at the same time, that She does so. One of those is a good friend of mine, Sarafina Beni-Isis. She had that name before she became the Daughter of Isis, even though the name Beni-Isis means literally, "Daughter of Isis".

Anyway,... the rank and file of the Church, and they are not all female, by the way. There are numerous examples of male sorcerers and such serving as teachers,... anyway,... the rank and file of the Church, the congregation of priestesses that populate the clergy, especially those special Mystics that embrace both priestly and wizardly magic, are called the Sisters of Isis. Many of these are templars, servants within the Holy Church that never leave their shrines and cathedrals. But there are many who wander far and wide on missions of mercy, missions of discovery, and some on missions of justice.

There have been many examples of their power and their devout faith. The destruction of Vorhing by Eleanor Moonshadow, shattering her staff and destroying half his adamant condor beneath Beotharn, killing all inside, including herself. She had faith that Isis would prevail, and prevail she did. She and all her friends were returned to the world of the living, wiser, but no more damaged from the event. It was Eleanor, her daughter Amythest, and her granddaughter, Jasmine that destroyed the arch-Liche Kaleal S'rryth, using their very souls to do so. Tabitha Hayes was another Mystic of Isis, occasionally known as the little sister of Queen Amanda Draggenbrand, but better known as the Elysium Priestess. She sacrificed herself to draw King Theron of the Blue Clan away from her friends, but she did not die. Rather, her patron, Saint Martek, took her to him and taught her the secrets of the Krell, making her the first true Krellcaster on Arrallon in 18,000 years. She now serves as an ageless messenger of the Gods, delivering Isis's truth, and the wrath of Her magic on those that oppose the Symballan people.

Over the centuries, the power of the Church of Isis has continued to grow. She may one day supplant Ra as the chief deity of the Symballan faith. But, where was I? Oh yes,... Symballan political ranks and titles. If you'll all open your books to page 473.
