Description

This is my first serious attempt at any type of portrait, and I chose my mom's best friend's baby as my subject because the camera just loves her, and because she's always so sweet and happy! How did I do guys?? Think her mommy will like it? Taken with my old-as-dirt Fujica ST605N (circa 1970s, with an m42 screw mount lens, if that tells you anything, but I prefer the term "vintage" LOL). It has a 55mm Fujinon lens, also old-as-dirt, and I used f/2.2 and shutter speed 1/15 sec. (it was a dim room), with a tripod of course, and Kodak B&W film ISO 400. I had the shots uploaded to a cd at Wal-Mart, and then I used the Diffuse effect in Virtual Photographer (in Photoshop CS2) to get the softness. And, last of all, I added her name down in the bottom corner. This is getting lengthy, lol, so I'll just end by saying thanks so much for all the great comments and tips on my last shot "Cart 2-for Maggiemai". Hope you enjoy!!

the overall pic looks good...I think you should have left the eyes a little sharper(just my opinion).

Under your conditions, it's a nice first portrait. Fifteenth of a second is a bit slow (LOL) for little ones. It has a nice "finishing" effect you've added. Only thing bothering me is the eyes are too dark. 'Course, just my own opinion. Nice job!

Yeah, pretty much all of the shots I got of her are this way..she always tilted her head slightly down, and her eyelashes are so long. Wasn't much I could do with it. And yeah Chuck, lol, I know 1/15 is WAY too slow for little ones, lol, but, at the time, there was so little lighting in the room that I had to pretty much run the camera wide open. Yep, I was unprepared for the lighting issue, but I'll know better next time. :-D

Very cute! The grain and softness makes it look vintage. I can see why the camera loves her! :)

A nice first attempt! It seems a bit too blurry to me, but that might just be my tired eyes at the end of the day :)

What a cute capture, Krista!!!! I'm sure her mommy will ADORE it!!! Well, you had some tuff conditions to work with Krista, and you did a fantastic job! One thing you might be able to try is to do a selection on just the baby's eyes so that way you can adjust brightness & contrast. You might be able to bring out more detail that way. :) It's an adorable capture under some really HARD lighting conditions!!! Fantastic work! ;)
