Description

Pretty much every were you go in Washington you can see Big Brother (Mt. Rainier ) . I tried the whole time I was visting to get a good shot of it, but it was always blocked by a house or tree so I gave up. On the way back to California I ended up with a window seat and tried to make the best of it by Photographing what I could with my Sony CD Mavica 350 ( 6x zoom ) . The glare and thick plane windows didnt help much, not to mention the overcast sky and haze . My side of the plane got a pretty good view of both Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams so I lucked out. Mt. Rainier's elevation is 14,410' and its still a active volcano. You can see in the image the steep-walled valleys scored into the mountain's sides by glaciers and debris avalanches.(The largest recorded debris avalanche traveled more than 60 miles, all the way to Puget Sound ). The last eruption was about 2,200 years ago. Thanks for looking. Namaste Tasquah

Very nice photo. I sure wouldn't want to be living anywhere in the northwest when this sucker blows... and I'm afraid it's going to one day.

A good shot of the spectacular mountain. Glad I live in the center of the country as geologists say this mountain could erupt any time.
