Description

"The sculptor produces the beautiful statue by chipping away such parts of the marble block as are not needed - it is a process of elimination. " --Elbert Hubbard "Every experience in life, everything with which we have come in contact in life, is a chisel which has been cutting away at our life statue, molding, modifying, shaping it. We are part of all we have met. Everything we have seen, heard, felt or thought has had its hand in molding us, shaping us." --Orison Swett Marden

Thursday. For those with a weekly 9 to 5 job, many of us are dragging a bit by today, especially if it has been a long and stressful week. We feel a little depleted, a little chipped away at, and look forward to the weekend for renewal. From the looks of things, this little statue has had a pretty tough time of it too, and it looks like he'll need more than a weekend to recover. Something about this scene spoke to me, sad as it is. From the splashes of paint still visible, we can see that this was once a brightly painted little guy, and he probably proudly held his sign high. Now he is all but forgotten, paint worn away and right arm broken off and laying next to him. What was his story? We probably will never know. ----- Thanks for stopping by and for your Zen comments on yesterday's image, Transition.

Kinda creepy looking. Maybe he was dancing around then suddenly you came by and he stood still, not to give away his cover. Just a thought. Nice shot though. KP

It was Michaelangelo who said 'I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.' Maybe there's more in this little guy waiting to be revealed? Kastakan

Looks to me that he's trying to blend in with the tree or that with a new coat of paint he could seperate himself from the tree...what ever the case ..you caught him in a pitiful state of matter..

I don't know which is sadder? (a) The statue that is worn, broken and probably forgotten? or (b) The stop sign that the city still hasn't replaced? LOL! Great mood-invoking piece for a Thursday! ; )

Makes me think of that movie of that little robot-boy that wanted to be a real boy, looking for the faery that would help him. Scultpures - they were already in the rough material, they needed only to be freed! Excellent work Kort, I see God's daily work in my life as the chisel that brings me to the shape I have now! Hard times now and then, but the eventual result He has in mind is something I never dreamt of!

You can always take him home, patch up what can be patched up and have it as a garden decoration. He will be the topic of conversation when ever you have friends over.
