Description

"Bogey" For Michael, just a wip, this was the first test run through poser. No postwork, you can see a naked skin from the onset of testing, and how it works through to the final completed texture. I was really really happy with this being the first test, and I liked the lighting. What I do when I test is run the image through a series of lights from the standard poser lights when you go into Poser, and all kinds of light setups, its an excellent way to check for flaws that might not show up using standard lights. The tendency in lighting like this is to show flaws in the mirroring, and displacement on the map, which is what you want to see. It can drive your eyes nuts though LOL! Bogey is an older man, thus yellowing and skin spots, etc. I just saw a sad lonely old man when I was making it, its funny how just working on a map, can inspire you to make characters. ...huh. Like I said, this is freaking best textures I have seen. Creative, and whats the most important, totally different and unseen. You certainly push the limits of Poser. Hopefully these points will noticed.

Thanks Niko, Lorraine And Daywoo. I've been experimenting in a different kind of realism, I had a discussion with some good friends awhile back about getting more visceral in realism, and moving away from the standard "beautiful" textures and characters. Thus came along "Dragonessa" And "Bogey". Lorraine hit the nail on the head from where my internal creative compass was at. There has to be a way of transmitting "soul" into your work. Texturing is sooooooo technical, and the more you delve the worse it gets. How do we put our soul into a texture? By creating a character that can take a texture and emote. We are ordinary human people, those of us creating, and using. We want to express a whole range of emotion, in a variety of ways, and one way to do that is to create characters and textures that encompass all of humanity and its very human frailties, older people, sad people, lonely people, and I will get off the soapbox now.

He is amazing :-) You can defiantly feel and sense the years of knowledge, pain, happiness, sadness, well all the emotions, phases, and rawness of life in general, behind those incredibly human eyes.

this is most definitely one of the best textures ever! Finally one of the real people... one little thing: maybee the insides of his eyes are a little too sore and they still look mirrored. I love the way they seem to be wet, really incredible. and I love how his mouth is, looks sorta homeless, helpless and though as if he's giving up on just about everything. Those "lived-with-faces" DO tell stories : )

great great texture! Something about his beard and lip area bug me a little (too smooth and young-looking maybe) but as you said, this is not a finished texture. Fantastic work!

Syyd, if anybody can portrait human pain and emotions, it would be you. You are taking Poser to the new level every time. Keep it up, this is incredible!!! :)

This is great, Syyd! Very emotional! I've been working on taking the "pretty" out of textures as well and I have to say it is much more difficult than creating "perfection". Kudo's to you for pulling this off so well! Can't wait to see theis finished!

Congratulations on the great work that's taking shape. The results are going to be excellent if you go on working this way. I think the texture can still be improved by taking away the "specularity" effect in that much of the left side of texture (namely all the yellow spots on forehead eyes area and cheecks) seem to be mirrored on the right side. Also there's too much blood in my opinion near the eyes - ok for an ill or wounded man but too much for a "normal" although suffering old man. Finally the lips and beard look too "clean" compared to the rest of the face - they'd need some roughening too in orer to match the overall look. But the overall impression is really great - striking.

I don't know much about art, but this looks really good! As noted in one of the earlier comments, his lips and beard doesn't match the rest of the face. Being that old and beat-up would he have any gray? You have inspired me to try and do something! Now, I'm going to your web site.

WoW!!, an impressive texture, has a great sensation of reality, the skin with its marks and imperfections, they stand out in an incredible way, it is without doubts a great creative work, the character's expression is of a deep sadness and pain.

Brilliant! ABSOLUTELY brilliant! I have few words to say that would bother you this time. You are of the rare that has gonne through a effort to really create a grotesque reality! Your reder DOES though remind me of something I sort of HATE about close ups through poser! The fact that you don't realise the size of the pupils through the process of lighting. Like your charecters pupils shouldn't be this tight in this lighting. As you said; the more you delve into it.. the WORSE it gets! WONDERFUL job Syyd... wonderful job!!

This is great! the textural qualities are fantasic as is the facial hair. however... the shading within the nostrils seems too light and the ears look more like an illustration than the rest of the composition, the eyes (eyeballs, iris etc.), though great, pull it down slightly, but it is virtually impossible to "see the heart of a soul" with any poser eyes, as a photo realistic picture it is damn close, as a poser model it's damn fine! Damn...wish I could do this... :) nice work!
