Description

Thanks for viewing !! :o) - ...and all i got was this lousy shot LOL ;o) Seriously, i got lost in the woods yesterday LOL After a good 3 hour walk i finally came to the conclusion the path wasnt going to lead me back to my car (i figured i could walk back to my car in a big circle). So i decided to backtrack, BUT then i saw loads of mushshrooms and i just had to take a couple of shots. When i was done and wanted to follow the path i came on back to the car i realized i didnt remember which path it was... You see, there were several paths coming together at the point i stopped and decided to go back, even worse, the paths all had sidepaths and i didnt remember if i came from one of them. After taking several wrong paths and walking them back to the crossing again, i finally started to recognize mushrooms i had seen and shot during the walk... So, finally, i followed the mushshrooms back to my car LOL ;o) Ok, the pic: I know this is technically a rather bad shot... i had to use flash on this one, although i dont like to... but i just HAD to capture and share this. Its somesort of parasitic wasp that has laid an egg on a caterpillar. The egg is spun in silk or something for those who wonder ;o) lol I cant even find what caterpillar it is let alone the species of wasp... *sigh* so if anyone knows which caterpillar this is or even which wasp, please do tell me :o) Have an excellent saturday !! :D - Thanks for all your wonderful comments on my last upload, "Skating Striders" !! -- Many thanks, Jeroen P.S. Sorry for the rather misleading thumb, it wont happen again LOL ;oP

This is seriously good for a quick shot! I have heard of people following bread crumbs home but never mushrooms :-) - Terribly happy you found your way back! Please, in future, be careful! Bravo sir!

This does soooo not look like the thumb. I bet that was a sweet shot as well as this one. This is sooo wicked as the english seem to say, lol. Aint too fun getting lost in the woods. A few weeks ago, me and Eija totally lost our way when we all of a sudden crossed a bear-path...Eija freaked out big time from the smell of it. Ran screaming in the other direction, which eventually lead us out to safety. Remember not to whistle when out walking where there are bears...attracts them. Thats my little bla bla bla for today, now i need to play with the kitten for a while. See ya. #:O)

There's a method to get out from a maze, dear. A method which never never fails: Just put your right hand on the right wall and walk, no more! If you don't interupt the contact, you always get out... Hmmm, actually if the maze has several entries, you may get out on the wrong one but then, you've got another method: Stand at the border of the road, close your hand with the thumb tight and wait... We call this method hitch hiking! I share your opinion about flashes!

Hate the flash!Personally I never use the thing...Amusing story Jeroen.Glad you made it out and back to civilisation...even if it meant having to share this rather repulsive image with us.LOL! Don't get me wrong. That's not because of how it looks.I just get totally creeped out by anything like 'parasitic' wasps.Parasitic anything is just plain gross. But that's just me...no offense. -M :)

Sorry not knowing about the species, but the shot IS spectaculair! Wow! This caterpillar seems to be 'de klos' LOL! You tried a very original way to find your way back and with success! Never underestimate the human intelligence when it concerns hardship (I would hope Kyoto would apply to that as well :( hm) and well, getting lost somehow made you find this one! Very impressive work, Jeroen!

1st of all I'm not surprised more photographers don't get lost. We do get "carried" away with our work don't we? 2nd: Does it hurt the caterpillar that the egg has been laid on it? Does egg just fall off when it's ready to hatch? (I've learned so much about insects since viewing your work). 3rdly, VOTE!!! Even your "bad shots" are superior! I'd be happy to have one of your bad shots ANY DAY

I can very well understand that you took this picture although it perhaps needed some flash light. One doesn't see the scenario on this picture every day.. so the choice is easy at that point. I know I saw this caterpillar before.. but what kind of cater it is.. I don't know.. BTW: today I've found some enormous mushrooms.. couldn't believe my eyes.. that big.. I don't know the species.. but you seem to have knowledge about shrooms.. Could you help me identify my mushrooms (didn't find their name on the web so far)

When you walk in these impressing surroundings the attention isn't paid to the road you go i suppose. But details can bring you back home. Happy for you you managed to reach your car again. And of course a beautiful impression of the road you went.
