The strongest emotion here is sorrow for the loss, but there is also the lingering aftertaste of lonely ritualized acceptance. I think you needed to add a few bits and pieces of her own personality to disclose her spirit to the audience. By this I mean her beliefs, pet peeves, favorite things, a phrase that she uses. There must be something of her that we, too, can miss. The scene was vivid.

Such an emotional piece! At first I thought it was just going to be so-so. But this is wonderful. You might wannt to correct the one word "wrested" as it appears to be a typo, I'm sure you meant "rested". (I hate it when I do that.) Give us a bit more of her personality and lengthen this a tad. And then, Wow!
