Description

A while that I don't upload, so it's time! This project was born as a project for animation, I have begun it two months ago, about, and I have spent a lot of time for it. It's WIP still, but in an advanced stadium from which I have been able to draw some static images of it. The scene is developed on a very large scale, bringing my PC (P4 2.7 Gh with 1.5 Gb ram) to limit of its possibilities, while Vue 5 Infinite has tolerated very well this huge work, giving the impression to never arrive the its limit. Some technical data: in the scene there are 2 terrains, the first (more large) to define the mountainous chain that surrounds the second terrain (1024 x 1024) with its hills to form the valley. In add there are only other two objects, 2 simple bridges on the river, all the other objects (trees, houses, cultivations, buildings etc.) they are generated by 15 ecosystems, all placed on the second terrain. The ecosystems have generated more than 500.000 objects for a total of 25 billions of poligons. This scene has been rendered in Global Illumination with "100 millions years ago" atmosphere standard setting (slightly modified), in 23 hours about, in Superior mode. Methods and techniques used: the 15 ecosystems has been grouped (and saved) in 6 different materials, while the scene (only 2 terrains, 1 plane for the river and 2 bridges, with sun and camera naturally) has separately been saved. Every material is separately applied (and populated) one after the other in sequence, every time that the scene is open. All the ecosystems have been defined through alpha masks created with Painter IX. Some masks (i.e. the roads) has been saved in very large scale (7000 x 7000 pixel) to get a sufficient definition for the closer shots. A lot of other things should be done and a lot of other ones could be done better, therefore I hope to have time and (patience) to keep work on. However, other images will follow in the next days. Credits: All houses and buildings by Alain Gracia (recolored by mine), sunflower by Planit3D. No postwork! Thanks for view and comments! Luigi.

Such a beautiful grand-scale produciton, Luigi! Here I am struggling over what amounts to postage stamp sized eco's and you're populating entire counties '-)! Only wish I could begin to appreciate all this insight that you've so graciously shared here as much as I do this brilliant piece of rendering!!

Wonderful composition & ecosystem engineering ! I see just 2 minor "defaults" - some volumetric beams of sunlight over distant hills(or just simulation in postwork) could greately enhance this scene, water (in left corner) looks very bright - I know, this is "natural" effect of sky reflected in water - but if it was darker it would look better :-) Whatever - very good one ! Bravo & vote !

Fantastic work. This is a huge scene, and I'd really love to be able to make one someday. Only one thing maybe, the ground material in the middle doesn't look as real as the rest of the image. I love the shadows a lot too.

I am in awe! That is one amazing landscape. And so detailed. I can't fathom how you made the roads and lined the trees beside it so wonderfully. Excellent work!!

I don't use Vue so I don't understand what the ecosystems is all about. But whatever... This is an incredible image. I am glad you went to the effort to do this. Lovely!

Beautiful work! I admire your eco-systems. I'm still struggling to gain more control over them - you have mastered it.
