Description
In Memory of Mabel Edith Young
Feb. 1 1937
Sept. 11 1939
May her soul rest in peace.
*This is my aunt, Mabel, who was born to my mum's father, John Young, when he lived in Edmonton for a few years. It is the only real tie I have to Edmonton, for I was born and raised primarily in British Columbia. Her mother, Olivia, is also buried in the same cemetary. The story goes that young Mabel contracted some kind of bowel disease and eventually died while John had been out at a bar getting drunk. Olivia never forgave him and even today I can still sense her anger, even though I think time has tempered it a bit. I don't know who planted the flowers at her grave stone, perhaps relatives of Olivia's, but I say, if they see this, thank you. Perhaps you can get ahold of me because it would be nice to meet some of Oliva's family.*

Or should the question be, was the person who planted the flowers even alive?
