Description

"All night long their nets they threw To the stars in the twinkling foam ~ Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe, Bringing the fishermen home; 'Twas all so pretty a sail it seemed As if it could not be, And some folks thought 'twas a dream they'd dreamed Of sailing that beautiful sea ~ But I shall name you the fishermen three: Wynken,Blynken, and Nod." Eugene Field Hi everyone. It's Friday!Yay! This is a shot I took last Monday, which was Labor Day here in the states.Don't ask me what's the meaning behind this holiday, lol,I frankly have no idea! But what it does is create a three-day weekend on the last one in August and as such,it signifies to most people the 'official' end of the summer. I went out late in the day in the hopes of maybe getting a decent sunset. There are no decent sunsets on the south shore of Long Island because it is soooo flat and populated, that the sun is almost invariably setting behing some ugly building or something. So I travelled to Sea Cliff which is on the North Shore.(Lol,what we call cliffs here would be a joke to most of you!) Any way,let me tell you,I suffered for my art! While I was waiting for the sunset,(which turned out to be nothing to write home about, lol,of course!),I was quite literally devoured by gazillions of tiny disgusting midges. You might call them 'no-see-ums',but there were so many crawling on my hands, etc, you could certainly see 'em!!!Ewwwwww!(Shudder!)I itch now just thinking about it! So here were these three guys, obviously totally oblivious to the apparent buffet they were offering to these despicable creatures.I guess a few beers and nothing bothers you! And since the sunset was a total washout I figured I'd snap a few shots of them instead.I think it came out kind of nice. Thank you for looking and putting up with my silly, self-indulgent babble.I really appreciate it!And as always, your comments and opinions mean soooo much! Hope y'all have a fabulous weekend! See ya!!! Marlene PS-I asked for a better title than 'Wynken,Blynken and Nod' and The ever witty PhotoSmith supplied me with this alternative.I think it's much better! Thanks Steve!

Well, I've heard that beer isn't just for breakfast anymore. Thank goodness! These gents obviously (or is that obliviously) got the message too! Oh, the "documentation" and photography are both terrific - nicely done, Marlene! :)

I guess you never have gone fly fishing during a rise? But I agree with you, you suffered the discomfort and I know it was not picnic. It is always like that, you plan to get the picture and something goes wrong, or it is so perfect, you wish you had the camera or that it did not run out of battery juice. Oh well, such are the heartaches of a photographer or an artist. Have a great weekend.

You are too funny Marlene. Looks like a nice way to while away the hours. I think if you have enough alcohol in your system, the midges leave you alone. :) Great photo!!!

LABOR DAY......The first Monday in September, observed as a holiday in the United States and Canada in honor of working people. And yes, to most, it signifies the end of summer and finally relief as one sends the kiddies back to school.. hallelujah... lol. I think you captured the perfect end to summer. Three guys fishing and drinking! ~sighs~ I had to work.. :=)

Interesting & well done composition of silhouettes. The relaxed happy feeling is transmitted. Beautiful orange reflections in waves. It is like the painting of the impressionist school. Beautiful work Marleeene!!
